Default How much will a shop charge for a 6 point roll cage?

I'm expecting to dip into roll cage territory this year, and expect to be in the 10's next year, so I guess I should start planning on a roll cage. What did you pay to have your chrome moly 6 point cage installed? What work did you/they do? Who pulled the seats, carpet.... Did you paint it afterwards, or was that included in the price? Did they do a good job?

I'm just trying to figure out how much I should be saving up? I figure I'll be doing seats and harnesses at the same time, so $ figures would help.

Thanks

Generally all interior removal/reassembly is done by the customer, and paint usually is as well. For this in chrome-moly and custom bent for your car, I'd expect to pay $700-1000 on average.

That sounds pretty close to me too. You can buy a weld-in kit from Wolfe for around $500 plus if you figure 6 hrs for install at $50/hr labor you're right at $800. Then paint, 2 seats and 2 harness will add another $700 min. for Kirkey's.

about $700-1000 sounds right, and that's for a chrome-moly 6-point ROLLBAR, not cage (meaning halo and dash down bars). If you want a cage (9.99 and quicker in a coupe/t-top according to NHRA standards), you'll likely spend more.

My 5-point bar in mild steel cost me $350 custom-bent with a swing-out bar. I did all the painting and interior work on remove/re-install.

Pictures are on my webshots (link in sig), I am happy with the results.

Default ROll bar

$ 1050.00 for a 6-point @ KTS Race Cars
$ 1500.00 w/ thru floor connectors
All 4130 - Tig welded

This kit is mounted to a specially mitered in tube in
the LCA box area. Our 6-point is more rigid than most
others full cages. My web guy is still boning me on my new
site. I can e-mail you pic's if you like. I'm in Michigan also !

Thanks Dave. I'll look you up this winter when I start tearing the car apart in prep for doing this. I most likely won't be doing it until then.

omg, id never pay any of these prices... just order the cage, go to lowes and buy u a welder for about hmm.... half the price and make a nice lil progect out of it... this is what i intend to do, i already bought the welder and its come in handy with the car countless countless times... if u dont know how to weld, read instructions, find some metal pipe or something and pratice on lol.

1000$ to install a cage is insane, or is this including the cage?

Its $1000.00 including the tubing. Youcant go to lowes and buy a TIG welder.

The question was "What would a shop charge". To me this means a "Professional installation" Professionals have overhead plus material costs( tubing, welding gas, filler rod machine costs, power bill, rent or payment on building etc.)

Everbody should have a look at the video on this board where the guy put his mustang on the roof at speed.Better to have the cage scraping across the asphalt instead of your head at 100+ mph.

I'm sure some amateurs can do a good job but most can't.They just think they can.

Having had my own shop, I agree with Madman. Cut the pros some slack. They have to make money. If you can DIY, that is cool, but don't complain because someone has rent, help, and phone to pay for.

Also, all you DIYers need to remember that you have to TIG moly, so if you are going to buy a welder at Lowe's, you'd better get a mild steel cage/roll bar.

not to beat a dead horse, but there is alot more to installing a cage than buying a $200 welder and a cage........first off dont buy a gasless welder which is what you will get for 200. a good mig is gonna run at least $500, then you have to buy a chop saw.....$200.............dont forget the grinder........$100......and a tubing notcher.........$175..................looks to me like unless you know what you are doing and have the equipment leave it to the pro's. and remember after you install your cage you have to get it certified.............i dont think welds with a $200 gasless welder are going to pass that certification, being as a cage is ment to save your life in the case it is needed.

Ok, here's a question about having the cage/bar certified. Can you paint it, and re-install all your interior stuff first, and then take it to be certified? Or do you have to leave the welds visible for the inspector to see, and then put everything back together?
