HVAC plate
Did you guys bolt your block off plates from the inside of the firewall or the outside? Any tips on making one? Where can I get some metal and what kind is best? Thanks, its a 94 Z28.

Any regular tin will work. I used sheetmetal on mine. Made a cardboard template first, then cut the plate out. I fit it over the stock bolts/studs as much as I could, then RTV'd it in place. I just went back in and resealed it last month from the inside and it looks like it hadn't leaked yet.

I used a scrap peice of stainless steel from the metal fabricators in my town. I paid like $5 for it. I made a template with paper (cardboard would have been easier) for the outside of the firewall. I used the bolt holes on the outside of the HVAC and siliconed in the ridge. My cover fits good and since I painted it black, it is not very noticeable.

7.5 FIREWALLS
Each car in competition must be equipped with a minimum .032-inch (.8 mm) aluminum or .024-inch (.6 mm) steel firewall, extending from side to side of the body and from the top of the engine compartment's upper seal (hood, cowl, or deck) to the bottom of the floor and/or bellypan. Firewall must provide a bulkhead between the engine and/or fuel tank and driver compartment. In certain instances fiberglass, carbon fiber or other composites may be used. See Class requirements or consult FIA. Use of magnesium prohibited.

Removed dash.
I took the box that had the evaporator in it and cut off everything that sticks trough the firewall, except for the part part that the lines to the heater core go to.
After you get that far, you'll see what you need to do. Basically just make the normal block off plate that everyone else does, but you'll need make a provision for air from the blower motor to go through the firewall, and then back into cabin area. Sounds complicated, but you can just cut a 3 x 5in hole in the block off plate, and then weld a 3 x 5 x 1in box that size over the hole.
