Default Help front bumper brace

Any tips on removing the front bumper brace, the foam blocks just hold it right there. Also what if anything have people done to support the bottom of the plastic bumper?
Thanks for any tips.

The foam clips to the impact bar and then the impact bar just unbolts. The underside of the bumper does clip to the impact bar but you can use some nuts and bolts to attach it to the radiator plastic like it was before. I just opted to cut off the whole underside of my bumper.

HEY GM THANKS. T
The problem is, I took all the nuts off the studs on the brace and there isn't enough room to push the brace forward so the threaded studs clear the holes. The foam blocks are between the brace and the front bumper and very little wiggle room.
Anyone else with help??? Thanks.

Your trying to do it with the bumper cover still on the car? If so, it doesn't take very long to pop the cover off. Not sure if you can even get it out with the cover on. Cutting the foam out won't work, it's suprisingly tuff to cut, very dense. You could probrably get a sawsall in there and cut the studs off each end of the impact bar, then you would have a shot at sliding it out.

Like GM said, save yourself some headache and take the front cover off will be a piece of cake after that.

How much extra weight do you think you saved by cutting off them mounts that the front bumper bolts to?

Impact bar was 15lbs, frame rail ends/impact bar mounts are 6lbs each, I didn't weigh the foam but it had to be atleast 5lbs. I also cut the nose down and pulled all the under car plastic and fender liners. Nothing like dropping 40-50lbs off the nose in an afternoon, for free to boot.

6lb each, thats pretty good. I already pulled the bumper support last year, just woundering if it worth my time to pull the cover back off to cut off the frame rail ends.

Yeah, it's deffinatly worth the time. Plus once you pull the bumper a couple times, you can do it in about 15 minutes.

I just noticed you have a Firebird and I havn't seen the under side of the nose on one. Basicly, I cut away all the excess, so now the lower edge wraps under and then that's it. Also, the Camaro uses a "nub" on each fender that locks into the nose, I cut this off and replaced it with a bolt to keep the seem tight. It should be just alittle floppier than stock but not really floppy. If it's real loose for some reason you can run the risk of spider webbing the paint.

The clips are reusable. Pry the center post up with a screw driver then use a pair of plies to pull it most of the way out, then you can remove the whole clip.
