Default Oil and Filters

I am building a 408 with a Procharger and nitrous kit. Which is the best oil filter and oil to use after the break in period. Thanks.

The napa gold and the wix are the same filter made by the same people. Both great choices.

Redline Oil is a very good high quality oil. Yes it's expensive, but you get the quality you pay for.
They sell a street use oil and race oil. The race oil has no detergents in it, where as the street oil does. Detergents are a good thing for street cars to prevent sludge. But in a race motor detergents can be a downfall because when the oil with detergents are introduced into the combustion camber they produce detenation which is a bad thing for the motor. With race motors the oil is changed often so the sludge deal isn't a problem.
As for the filters, the KN/Napa/Wix filters are a good choice.

Any thoughts on the Valvoline or Pennzoil synthetic?

I'd skip on the synthetics... they don't burn as well, and will be more likly to cause detonation. Besides I'm sure if the motor is being built knowing the procharger is going on, it's gonna be semi-loosly clearnaced, and will eat thin synthetic oil like candy.

My machine shop said the clearance is not going to be like factory. I always use Pennzoil or Valvoline in my other cars. What do you think about the K&N filter? I do not know where to get the Napa or Wix around here. So you feel I should stick with regular, a few people have told me also, but others recommend synthetic. I change the oil regularly anyway. Which would be the best oil than? Thanks.

the k/n filter is also very good, but for the $ I'd just stick with the long turuck napa gold filter, it holds a little more oil and the filter element is a little longer. The machine shop is basicially telling you it's gonna be a looser build, requiring a heavier oil. I'd ask them what they reccommend for oil, but I'm gonna guess it's a 20-50 stuff.

I know some people will tell you to run a synthetic, but I wouldn't unless you can find one that's as thick as 20-50.. not just rated as 20-50, actually that thick.

Where could I get the Napa truck filter? Do you have that part number? Thanks. East Side is going to be doing my tuning. My car is at Extreme Engineering right now having the cage and things done.

your car's at exstreme? Mine's going there first weekend in february LOL, they'll be crossing path's.

What you having done for a cage? Bruce does very good work.

I do believe the napa truck filter # is either 1522, or 1523. Just ask for the filter for a 1 ton 2002 with a 6.0... that's the one.

He is doing a 10Pt. chromoly cage along with the 9", all tubular suspension parts, etc. More or less doing my whole car over. My car is silver too.LOL. Maybe I will see you up there. I have to bring my new motor up there as soon as it is done. Supposed to be the end of this week. Bruce is doing my engine swap too. the guy doing my motor is very good friends with Bruce and he comes highly recommended. Do you know where to get the Napa filter? You feel that is the best one?

any napa should have it. I'd run that filter and feel good about it.. it's a wix filter, the only thing all the nascar teams use.. and if they are using them, then they have got to be tested to be the best or they wouldn't use them. Ken @ eastside built my motro, and said that would be a good filter to run... so I'm sticking with it.

Maybe I will see ya there, if not I'll see your car if it's still there. I have to drop my car off Feb 3rd, as long as it's not snowing like mad or anything. Who built your motor? Did Eastside do it?

My car will still be there, it will probably be there for a while. A speed shop by me (S&S Speed Shop) is building my motor. They have been around a long time. They build Bruce's motors. There are no Napa auto parts stores around here. I will have to search on here for a place that sells them. you will most likely see my car there. I am going up there hopefully in 2 weeks to bring my motor, rear, tranny, rims, tires, etc. The only thing left stock on my car will be the shell. I am really hoping it meets my expectations. Ken is going to be doing my tuning and whatever needs to be done with the Big Stuff 3. if i do not see ya there maybe we could hook up at the track or shows. No one around here drives American cars. They are all jap cars.
