How about Telstar 16 X 9.5 X 7BS, instead of grinding 15's???

I really don't want to grind, is there a reason I shouldn't go with the 16 X 9.5 Telstars? Mickey Thompson makes both drag radials and ET streets that will fit these wheels. My car is a M6 so having the side wall wrinkle isn't necessary

Kevin at Mickey Thompson says M6's shouldn't use a wrinkle wall design tire.
Bogarts are pretty, but they are not DOT, and Bogart makes the point they are NOT street wheels. Also it will be a cold day in Hell when I spend $400 for a wheel.
The question still is why is it not a good idea to use the 16" Telstars?

I thought wrinkle wall and airing down the tires gave you a bigger contact patch to give you a better grip. Anyway I called MT because I'm having a 408 built and the MT DR's were spinning all the way through first with my 346. That's when they told me M6 need stiff wall and autos need wrinkle wall. Interestingly the track that I had been going to, Orlando Speed World, I had to launch under 3,000rpm because of spin. I since went to Gainesville Raceway and the DR's were dead hooking at 5,000rpm launch. I never realized how much hooking could vary from track to track. I've really changed my opinion of MT DR's, now I'm really happy with them.
How about some more comments on the 16" idea.

I would consider sticking with your stock wheels instead of purchasing new 16" wheel that probably will end up being similar in weight to what you have now.
One big factor in considering drag wheels is reducing weight. Rotational and unsprung weight plays a very important role in lowering your times at the track and increasing traction. This also affects your braking abilities among other benefits. If you want a wheel for a certain look, then that is fine, but there is little to be gained from considering the setup you mentioned.
Once again, good luck with your setup!
