Default How do I remove the side impact bars?

My friend and I already cut off one side of the bar on each side but the other sides with the 2 bolts are hard to figure out, I need help on how to get that side out.

Well, sometimes you can get a ratcheting wrench on them, or you can modify a 10mm socket. Those bolts are in there fuggin tight though. I just took a dremel and zipped out the metal mounting bracket.

It is very hard.
you will probley have to use a combination of a couple things including a modified 10mm and maybe use vise grips as your ratchet if you can get it to not slip. grind one side of socket flat to help with that.

Here are a few more things you can do while you car in there if you are sheding weight. Depends on how extreme you want to be.

Door parts
14.5 both door bars
5.5 both brackets at the rear of the door that the door bar attaches to (this is the door catch that if your door don't close all the way it catches here. also if you take and slammed your door as hard as you can it might help but I have had mine out with no problem)
1.5 both door insullation + clear plastic dust covers under the door panel
3.5 I cut all the fiberglass out of both doors that I could with a dremel and a hole saw so I got a total of 3.5 lbs out of the doors combined.
<.5 speaker holder brackets

holesawing doors 1.75lbs per door 3.5lbs total from both doors

Someone elses, not sure how much they lost but it looks like more than me

take a 1/4 socket10 mm(FOR SMALL BOLTS) and grind it down on a bench grinder so that there is just enough to get it on the bolt to loosen it.then use an open end wrench to do the reast. when you get the door bars loose, pull all the wiring out the hole that it goes through, close the door almost all of the way.take off the front wheel and inner fender.door bar will slide right out the front , then simply put everything back together.

Hope you don't get into a wreck or if you sell the car and they get into a wreck, could be a lawsuit. Not worth it for a couple pounds if you drive it on the street at all...

i thought it was illegal to take safety equipment off a street car? same thing with removing the dash cluster and not keeping the odometer.

If car is going to have some type of cage then i could see taking the door bars out.

Dont eat the day you race and save the 3lbs that way. Or take a good healthy ........
