Was looking back into old weight reduction articles and came across this: http://www.bmrfabrication.com/Buildup4.htm Can anybody tell me whether or not BMR or anyone else ever produced this support? Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I thought that may be the case but it looks like they are still making one for the Mustang. They just added-Drag Race Only in the description. Was hoping they had done the same for the f body.

That is a nice piece, would be nice if they did sell that for the front and back of a transam, I'd buy one for sure. No fear of the nose sagging, and putting the fog light tabs on it would make it even nicer.
fwiw I pulled the bumper foam and support out of my car, cut the ends off so I could keep the fog lights mounted like stock, and attached the lower plastic back to the nose, and the air dam/radiator air piece with some bolts/nuts/washers and the nose is still surprisingly sturdy feeling, I was acutlaly surprised.
but, that piece would for sure keep it more stable, make for a great way to mount a tranny cooler, etc.etc.

If support is not manufactured by anyone, a good fabricator could probably make good money putting one together and selling on this board. I would definitely buy one if it was available. Not sure what the liablity would be for an individual on something like that, though.

Going to get my rollbar done in the next couple of weeks. Think I'll show this to him and see about trying to get one made up from chromoly. Would rather have some support up there-whether I need it or not. Haven't decided whether or not to run fog lights but, like you say, could go ahead and have tabs mounted, just in case.

hell, 90% of the stuff sponsors sell are labeled "offroad use only"
sure would be nice to take that much weight off the very front of the car. that, with a k member would be a very nice nose savings

No matter what, even if it is labeled as off-road-only, someone will install it on their car and then get maimed and then sue the pants off the person who made it.
I would not suggest an individual get any ideas from this thread. Too much liability involved. Just because those guys didnt sue because their wheels broke, doesnt mean some douchebag down the line isnt going to sue you for making a bumper support which broke and subsequently caused him to suffer and have loss of work and all that. Not worth it.

how much weight could you actually save if you use rollcage tubing (even chromoly)? Id think that would put most of the weight from the stock bar right back on the car. I can see in the case above where he needed to mount all that stuff anyways, (and it is a VERY nice job too man
) but for someone who doesnt need any custom stuff up there, just wants to support the fascia. couldnt you do it with small diam. solid rod that would be easy to bend by hand or with a hand brake line bender? anyone got pics of something like that?

Wasn't talking about getting support made up from rollbar tubing. Just getting with the guy doing my rollbar about making one up. He can pretty much fabricate anything for a race car. You're right, though...definitely don't want the rollbar tubing hanging on the front! The small diameter stuff may work, like you say, if you didn't have anything else to support. Just going to get with him and see what we can come up with.
