Grinding Calipers 101

Just finished my 2001 Formula with Weld Prostars 15x10's and 15x4's. I would estimate I have about 15 hours of grinding and 5/16 spacers all around. I agree that testing the wheels on and off for fit was a pain in the butt. But the end result was well worth the work. The car looks great and I'm ready for some drag racing this Sunday and put some numbers on this beast. I'll be getting some pics soon and I will post my race times on the drag racing thread.

This is a great write-up and the pics really help a lot. I really don't know if I feel safe doing that much grinding with a semi-daily driven/beat on car (and possibly handing the car down to my son's some day). The front seems like barely any grinding with my 15x3.5 ProStars and spacers but what calipers can you all recommend for the rear? I have 15x10 ProStars for the rear and would prefer to keep the integrity of the rear calipers for the above reasons.

My old prostars on my LT1 required NO grinding or spacers in the rear with pads about 50% left, My Greg Weld fronts fit with NO grinding or spacer also
My Greg weld rears took about 15hrs to fit and I used sanding discs (i think120 grit) with a angle grinder and the paint method
Also the window on the back of the LT1 rear caliper is much smaller than the LS1 so not as scary when taking down the back side. I will be buying drag brakes but not to worried untill then

i just have regular draglites, i grinded the **** out of my calipers but they are still scrubbing a little. i dont want to grind any more though. guess its time to buy some spacers. so is 5/16 the usual spacer in the rear?? i dont want them sticking out like a cholo.

yeah I know just pointing it out for the Lt guys. Another and probably safer option for the LS guys is to swap to LT rear brakes. That way very little or no grinding or spacers are required. Stopping power/distance wont even be noticed.
Not to mention you can find Lt stuff CHEAP.

sorry to revive an old thread but i have the same problem as him with my weld draglite 15x10's and i dont want it sticking out like crazy.

I'am running the Jegs Sport Stars 15x4 and 15x8s.. The front required grinding. The backs I had to grind a little also but not as much as weld wheels.. I'am not using no spacers front or back.

On the caliper where is the fin located at. Because I'm gonna buy the Race star wheels and people are saying they had to grind the fin maybe 5 min a caliper. I probably grinded them off since I had to grind for my jeg star wheels..

I used an electric grinder. The better quality the grinder, the less amount of time it will take. I started with a real cheap one and it was a pain. Borrowed a buddy's nice grinder and started flying through it.
