Quickest/fastest N/A stock bottomend? 10.57 @ 128
Storyline:
At least for now, I think this is the quickest and fastest N/A stock shortblock 346…maybe, maybe not…10.5x’s on slicks and Drag Radials 126-128 mph!!!
Story:
Went to Stanton (Mid-Michigan Motorplex) last night (Wednesday) with my buddy Turbo Jim. He took his 11-doh! Turbo Regal…he missed the 10’s by a fraction, but that’s another story.
Difference from a few weeks ago when I ran 10.7x’s at 125 on Drag Radials was 1) better air and 2) I took the slicks (28x10.5 M/T’s) and the DR’s (325/50 BFG’s). Nothing else changed. Raceweight was 3090. Exhaust ran open but my new mufflers came yesterday after I left, so, next time it will be muffled again. DA's, per NOAA's webpage, was -733' on my best run (PAIN's site was down).
Traction was good considering the number of street cars. My 60’s were in the 1.42-1.48 range on both the slicks and DR’s no matter what I launched at…the DR’s liked 1500-2000 rpm, the slicks, a bit higher. However, the slightly shorter and no growth DR’s caused me to hit the limiter through the traps dropping my mph about 1.5.
Here’s the rundown of the times:
-1500 launch on slicks: 1.482, 4.346, 6.770 @ 101.83, 8.855, 10.618 @ 127.82
-2000 launch on slicks: 1.444, 4.326, 6.749 @ 101.94, 8.835, 10.599 @ 127.56
-3000 launch on slicks: 1.426 then I pooched it from 1st to 3rd instead of 2nd, then on into 4th gear…it still ran 11.102 at 122.63
-3000 launch on slicks: 1.438, 4.323, 6.739 @ 102.22, 8.818, 10.577 @ 127.94
-1500 launch on slicks trying to get a good light (did): 1.480, 4.349, 6.770 @ 102.13, 8.849, 10.609 @ 127.98
…then I changed over to the slicks which I ran at 14 psi cold like the slicks…
-2500 launch on DR’s – spun over once or twice: 1.500, 4.365, 6.788 @ 101.83, 8.877, 10.650 @ 126.38 hitting the rev limiter of 7000 with converter slippage (Yank TP4400) before the traps
-1200 launch on DR’s: 1.481, 4.394, 6.814 @ 101.79, 8.906, 10.681 @ 126.31 on the limiter
-2000 lauch on DR’s – it felt good like a few weeks ago when I went 1.42’s on them: 1.438, 4.329, 6.741 @ 102.24, 8.825, 10.595 @ 126.56 on the limiter
It was carrying both fronts on DR’s!!!
Quickie rundown to refresh people’s memory:
Stock shortblock, GM Performance Parts LS6 CNC’d heads out of the box, “medium” hydraulic cam (approximate specs – no cam card: 0.560” lift, 113 LSA’s, 219/229 duration), stock fuel systems, MAC’s – (yeah, they do alright), air filter always in, Yank 4400 with rest of trans BONE stock down to the original fluid (I’m lazy sometimes), Strange 4.11 12-bolt with posi, stock looking interior plus 6-pt moly cage, etc., plus lots of weight reduction.
What’s next? If nothing nukes in the driveline, keep playing with it this year and try to get some 10.4x’s out of it at around 130 and maybe restart my bracket racing! Then, over the winter, either I’ll start on another project, or do something nasty with this thing.
Take care and good luck to all with your projects. Dave
PS: I’ve got some nice videos, too, if someone wants to host them I’ll send one or two over. Thanks and goodnight.

Very impressive!
Man, those negative DA's must be nice! Here in Florida it's usually been around +1800ft. or so for the last couple of months.

awesome times!! are you going to bg on the 31st? it'd be awesome to see your car make some passes down there
I was planning on taking the car, but I've got business commitments that will not let me get away in time to tow down there and not be too ragged. However, if the weather is good, I am planning on driving down late on Friday to watch.
Anyways, I see you are from Ohio. I was planning on going to the COFBA event that was just held, was paid up, could make both the original dates but not the 2nd rain date. That said, I'd like to make the next one. If the weather is good, I'll be at the CamaroZ28.com event in July at Stanton, MI and will be at Norwalk periodically through the summer. Take care.
PS: Hope to have the videos hosted sometime in the next couple of days. Have a great holiday weekend.

Great runs!! Who did your tuning on it and what are your shiftpoints? I like the traditional split vs the reverse. I see that GM does it with all of their cams so why not use what they spend millions on R&D? Good luck on your future runs, and i like the statement of "it is the quickest fastest for now stock shortblock". I think you said the same thing about the stock internal record and its still there.
