Lost some good friends today...
I am posting this for my brother. tdwta2001. This happened in Atlanta about 2am this morning.
Neil(deadcarny) was tuning his car. Scott(drives red SS from near Easley I believe) caught neil at light. They took off racing. Neil slowed down for the curve doing 70-80. Scott overturned, lost traction. Hit pillar for sign on side of road. Car traveled 8-10 feet up the pole. 2 people in backseat(Charles-chickn and guy from Columbia) died after flying out of the car through the t-tops which weren't in. Driver was stuck in car with faint pulse. The girl that was in the front seat had a broken collar bone. The driver was airlifted to a hospital and he was still alive as of 5am this morning but in critical condition.
Still waiting on details for the funeral. Parents want as many people from the club that can make it to come.
tdwta2001(Terry) would like to try to set up a fund for his family. Any thing you want to donate can be sent to tdwta2001. He is starting the fund himself with 100 dollars. Money can be sent to him or his paypal account and he will take care of it.
Sign on to paypal.com. Money can be sent to tdwta2001@comcast.net. Anyone can donate anything they want.
Neil(deadcarny) got his car impounded. Has 4-5 charges against him. Any support for him or his family would be appreciated too. Anybody that would like to talk to terry about this can call him at home 843-572-6946.
Here is the page from NBC news in Atlanta that has the story about it.

Everyone that's been lucky so far should be thankful. I know I'm one of them.

Incidents like that are why I'm not big on "pick-up" (unplanned) street races.
Street racing, as we all know, is far more dangerous than "taking it to the track". However, I won't get on a high horse and say I don't do it. What most of us do here in the Austin scene, and I recommend to all of you, that you only race in an "arranged" match on a known straight road, free of traffic, that both drivers are familiar with. While it's still nowhere near as safe as the track, it's a lot safer than a random race on a random road.
I know how tempting it is to quash that Mustang etc. that throws you a rev, but as I get older I find myself resisting it more and more. Maybe, just maybe, a little wisdom is creeping into my bones.
