I wish I had to money to build my car. I am trying to drop my cutlass and go with a 99-04 mustang. Out of alot of Radial Mustangs I have seen, I like Phil's the most. I admire the work he has done. He did extremely well at building it and I love the stance he gave it. I wish I could take out a loan to build a car, but I am doing it from paycheck to paycheck . I am just 22yrs and the limousine technician for Mohegan Sun. I have spent my past year's salary on building my Hemi. I even lost my girlfriend over it. taking her to Burger King didn't fly lol

The fastest I have run is in my convertible which is entirely a street car

I am taking baby steps. I am building my Hemi n/a first and I am building a mild 383 Mopar with a pair of small turbos (blow through), to experiment with turbos since I have no experience with them. I will run that motor in the cutlass while I locate a mustang and work on it.

No you don't (take out a loan) and that is the ONLY way to do it (paycheck to paycheck).
When I got started, I did pretty good, and just ended up with $5000 on credit cards.(15 years ago) A friend of mine that was competing in Outlaw ended up with close to $50,000.00 in credit card debt.
Was so bad, he started dealing and got caught, took his car, his house, and ended up in prison for 7 years.

My last build and my current 2 projects I have ZERO debt on. Everything up to this point has been paid cash for. Sure, its ok to put some stuff on Credit Cards, but you don't want to get caught to heavy in it. A home improvement loan or something like that, that you can get a really good interest on, I can see why someone may want to do that (or do it) I mean, my wife wanted to change the color/style of the tile in our house. So, $8K later, we have new tile. What I am saying is, what is the difference if say you take out $25,000 home improvement loan and you put new tile/paint etc... in your house, or fix "your garage, Ahem, race car I mean". I still prefer cash, and that is what I am doing....but DON'T go out and charge up a credit card or take out some high interest rate loan, good God NO!!! Think about it: You buy a high performance part, that the instant it is installed, you now have a part that is worth .50 on teh dollar AND you are paying 20% interest on

I know that sorta story, cept my buddy got out in time. had a 3rd gen, kept getting bigger and bigger with the build, ended up with a serious debt (I believe it was around 12K on credit cards), and sold the car. Luckily enough what he sold the car for got him out of debt and gave him some cash for a rainy day, he just put it in the bank and hasn't looked back.

Couple more pics...Shawn @ Virginia Speed can handle any machine work.. 1/2 of the Jesel order arrived, they are still working on the distributor setup. Couple more weeks we should have all of our electronics back also.

Thanks, Shawn started on the main girdle, looks exactly how I would have done it. Hopefully we'll have a crank this week.

If you don't mind me asking....how is his girdle gonna be setup? Is it going to bolt to the bottom of the block, and sandwhich between block and oil pan? Got any pics?

Also, I see you are going with a dist. Did you have any probelms with the coils at higher RPM? If not, why are you going dist (again, if you don't mind me asking)

the crank pickup signal isn't reliable past ~8500 rpm...

I thought I read something somewhere about that..wasn't too sure what it was, but I was pretty sure it had something to do with coils/pickup sensors...along those lines. Thanks.

no pics or details on the girdle, have too much time and money invested in it to give it away.i will tell you there is a lot of machine work that has to be done to the block to make it work.and i will install it on any block for the low-low price of $1000.00

besides the rpm issue, there is also some problems with coil dwell on the bs3,going to the dist also allows up to run different ignition systems with better features.

Low low price huh Fair enough. I know somethings are meant to be and that is why I "if you don't mind me asking" Well, at my current power levels, a girdle'd block would be overkill, but maybe one day I will join the upper HP echleon class and have a need for it. My current build (the 414") will see 8000-8500RPm and I was looking into the problems associated with the DIS. I will probaly stay DIS for this motor, since it is not gonna be my comp motor, just a fun weekend warrior motor. My Wet Sleeved LS1 will probaly see a dist however

Well all I can say is there are two types of girdles. You have the one that DM performance makes and custom ones from Shawn Miller or Kurt Urban. There is no comparison between the girdles and your going to need it at a certain power level. Can't really say much about it but its badass and after seeing how **** moved around its certainly needed. For the materials and machine time, 1k is a deal.

As far as I know the first "custom" girdle was done by Kurt Urban and used on Casper to keep the bottom end from moving.
