Ram Air Modifications ... Will I Gain At The Track?
OK, here it is ... hacked my hood to prove the ram air theory to myself (below) ... no K&N filter for tomorrow nights runs at the track. Anyone think it will get an optimal air charge?
Hood popped showing where bottom nostrils will collect air charge.
Hood closed.
From the back which seats on the lower air lid opening (sealed).
Fast Toys JAAM plate & 85mm lid.
FAST90/HOLLEY90/SLP 85mm MAF(ditched the clear lid).
Where the hood seats.
Lower snorkel view (hood closed).

I'm confused, which lid are you going to use?
Also, I didn't know that FastToys makes a 85mm lid now. Maybe I'm way behind the 8 ball here but many of us have been waiting for years for another vendor to make a 85mm lid. Texas Speed stopped making them several years ago and no one has stepped up to the plate until now it seems. I need to do some research on this FastToys lid and see if it is truly 85mm.

Thanks for the responses from everyone. The Fst Toys is a true 85 mm lid and has a bulkhead on it, as well. I'll be taping the JAAM plate holes, fog light holes, and the running lights holes in the front. And thanks for the good luck wishes. I'm hping to pick up 2 mph and 2 10th's. I'm doing a run with the K&N filter out and a run with the filter in. I look forward to posting the results ... good or bad.

Results are in.
Changes:
1. K&N filter removed
2. Swapped SLP lid to a 85 mm lid
3. Added JAAM air plate
4. Bottom snorkel holes I cut from the nose of the hood.
Slightly worse 60' foot times
MPH gain: 1.8
ET gain: 1.4
If 60' launches were identical, MPH gain would have been 1.5 and ET gain would be 2 MPH.

Thanks! February 16th might work out. Times were at OSW last night on 275/40R/17 Nitto's. Traction was fair last night ... just couldn't stall past 2000 without spinnin' a little. Ran against 1966 Chevy10 truck spraying a NOS 100 wet kit on a 454 CI motor ... beat me by 2 cars.
Mickey Thompson's will be on the car when I come up. On a nice VHT prepared track like Gainesville, I should be cuttin' 1.4x's and ET should be low-mid 11's on a good night.
I look forward to running against you, as well.

i think you need to channel the air from the nostrils to the lid. cause the air thats getting in there is "tumbling" and going every which way. look at the BG Ram air and youll understand more what im talking about. the straighter the air the better, and therefore netting better results

Yeah, I've been looking at getting some thin, lightweight metal (maybe like the aluminum heat sheild material) ... making something exactly like you're talking about. To just enclose that area and make it totally sealed would increase the velocity 3-fold. I'll have something like that fab'd up before I go back to the track, which will be soon.
