a cage would have the bars along the roof and down the a-pillar. the driver is completely surrounded by the "cage". the difference between a 6 point and 8 point "rollbar" is the 2 small bars that run diagonally to the floor behind the front seats toward the tunnel make it an 8 point instead of a 6 point. an 8 point cage has all the front bars to make up a "cage but do not have the 2 short angled bars to the tunnel. if it had those bars it would make it a 10 point cage. hope this helps. im sure someone else can explain it better.

From: Gainesville, Florida # of drag strips runs: ?!?!?
a 6 point will not pass NHRA tech for 9.99 and quicker. It needs to have the halo (top hoop that goes from the main hoop behind the driver to the windsheild edge), front downbars, driver and passenger door bars, down angled bars from main hoop to either subframe connectors or front plate of rear frame rails, and back bars. The minimum point for a cage to be 9.99 and quicker NHRA legal is 8-point (which I am counting based on # of points at the floor, but if you add in the halo it would be a 10-point), the minimum for a roll bar to be NHRA legal is a 5-point (main hoop, driver's door bar and back bars).
