Default Upgrading Yank SS3600 to a PT4000

Those of you who have done the upgrade, what were your track time differences. How were your mid and upper range shift extensions effected. How much improvement on your 60'?

do you spray? even so, I would think the 4000 stall would be a bit high. you probably wouldnt see a whole lot of 60' difference as the PT series has a lower STR, but you will probably pick up a mph or two at the most.

I spray my Pro Thruster with a good shot out of the hole. Flashes to 5,600-5,800 and hauls ***!

see, when I spray 150, my flash is similar, but my shift extension is 6100 so i have a small working window till redline since the 4000 is so loose

With traction you should see 1.5x 60's. I'm guessing you'll lop 2 tenths off your E.T. and prolly pick up some MPH too.

Get that thing to hook up & your solidly into the 10's. I 60' 1.53 & run 11.30's in the 1/4 w/4500 stall....and only 330 rwhp un-locked....spray a 125 shot & am 10.90's.

Most all the folks here like Matt D, Ragen, ProStock John, etc. have been telling me about the best thing I could do to improve my runs would be to swap the converter to a Pro Thruster 4000(or higher) type stall.

Spoke with Dave Myers at YANK last night. What great Customer Support! He fielded 4 of my phone calls yesterday and was patient and kind enough to dedicate a total of about 45 minutes of his valuable time. This will be my 3rd YANK converter and it damn sure won't be my last.

Can't wait to run the car with this new big stall. With the SS3600 not secured and moving around in there, it had to have been hurting my times when the tranny was shifting down the track. The stator shaft was almost completely stripped, as well, so, I was racing with the converter sitting at an angle and rubbing the stator shaft.

Thanks for responding and keep the opinions coming. I'd like to hear back from the folks who recommended I go with the PT4000 stall ... along with others who would like to express your opinion about any gains I might see from the swap.

That Matt D guy knows what he is talking about

From all the cars that I have worked with over the years, I would never go smaller than a 4000 unless you were hosing it with a 200 shot or more in the 4l60e. I have never run the ss series converter in my personal car, only in other's cars, but I am going to be switching to a ss4000 here in a few weeks when I start spraying my car with the 150 shot. My motor times are in my sig, and that was with the PT4400 flashing to 4800-5000, the shifts dropping from 6300-5700, and 12% converter efficiency. That was roughly 330-340hp and 3100lb raceweight.

The PT4000 & 4400 converters are the best all motor converters due to their higher shift extension, and the 2.5str still cuts awesome 60fts. A lot of people complain about them being loose, but with my PT4400 and 3.73 gears out back, it is not bad at all. I still get awesome gas mileage when I daily drive it as long as I don't gas the car hard at every stop light. Can you spray on a PT series converter? Yes, but if you have your shift points and rev limiter set low (like a stock internal or cam only car) you will blow through the converter too quickly. To take full advantage of a PT converter and nitrous, you would need to spin your motor to around 7200-7500.

The SS series are tighter & have less shift extension for those guys who do a lot of street driving and/or are spraying a healthy shot, but they too have a higher str so they will hit hard out of the hole as well.

I think you will love your PT4000 converter.

I've always been a fan of the Yank Pro Thruster 4400, I'd go bigger than 4000 if you want max performance. While the looseness of the 4400 is noticeable in stop'n go traffice, the car's 1.4 60 ft potential speaks for itself.

Dangit! I can't wait to get the installation done and get the car out to the track. There is still a ton of weight reduction to be done on the car. Just chickenshit about some of it, but, some of it I'm gonna' get done, i.e., ozite or some sort of lightweight carpet, PC6800 battery, skinnies/drag wheels ... contemplating front bumper support delete, etc. ... maybe shortbelt mod.

I'll keep goin' 'til I hit 10's and then I'll probably really lose my mind and take off more ... .
