Twin 80's on a 509 is a lot of air. You going to use a 502 block or a 454 block? I guess you could go aftermarket, but for only a low 5xx the added expense isn't worth it unless you're going all out.

It would be tight on the passenger side with the header and DP and the driver side would be a PITA but it's doable. Would be easier with a motor plate though and you could use the motor plate to help support the turbo(s).

True.

Like I said I change my mind on this about everyday. Who knows what it will end up with.

I want to go as fast as I can go with a pump gas motor on twin turbos, I've seen 1500-1600 hp at reasonable rpm, under 7,000. I will most likely run a dart big M block size plus a 9.80 deck will fit much better with conventional heads, I am considering an afr 335 cnc, or other hi flow smaller runner head. If I went with a 540 I would maybe consider a slightly bigger head, but for the power range and power level twin 80's on a 509 would kick some *** Plus if I wanted to step it up I could just add race gas and boost or swap to a set of slightly larger twins.

I like how this setup fits.

Made a bone head move and forgot to install the oil pump driveshaft, so I had to drop the pan and pump to put that on. Got lucky and the tall valve covers fit, but just barely. Still need to figure out what I'm going to do for a radiator support. Ordering pushrods and new link bars, Comp supplied std. link bars instead of offset ones. Headers going on next weekend and should have the intake manifold back from getting ported in a couple weeks. Then comes fuel lines, brake lines and electrical.

Everytime I look at this thread I get ideas of putting a BBC on my 99 Z28.

Keep up the good work.

lt1 radiator support will work to hold a radiator up in place, either that or BMR makes a stainless one that looks nice too, and yuo can modify that and pull the radiator up more if you want to.

Did you need valvecovers taht tall to clear stuff or was that just a personal choice? They look nice, but are gonna be a bitch to get on and off from the looks of it.

I had the LT1 piece but the current radiator is too wide, it won't fit. I even hacked it up, but found out it just wasn't going to fit. I'll check out the BMR one, thanks.

Just a personal choice, after running Canton's on my LT1 I like the tall ones better. I didn't want to order std. ones and then run into issues with the rockers hitting them. I put the booster on to make sure they would fit without any problems and I can get to all the bolts, I just don't have room to pull out the ones under the cowl. I have the same issue with my Canton's.

The plan was for my to get a notch fox and build a big TT BBC or a big single BBC (540ish cui for both big bore motors).

Looks like I will be going back to school next year and if I do and it goes to plan I may be in school for another 5-6 years, granted Ill be able to afford to build anything I want and the wife will not have to work.

BBC's are fun, Ill never go back to an SBC.

Can't beat the sound

You have any part numbers on your steering linkage system?

Tony.

I agree about the cowl, it gives a lot of room to get to stuff with the cowl off. I am setting my firewall back and after I mount the hood will cut the stock windshield mounting point back so I have even more clearance above the motor.

Something like this.

Because I don't think it's needed, plus I wanted to keep the windshield wipers. I will trim it a little across the front to clean it up and back by the distributor if I have to. Just have to wait and see.

Not off hand. I got the whole steering rack and components from BMR, but mine was the old style. Their new package looks a lot better. Right now I use the factory top piece, bar stock and then a chromemoly joint to attach to the rack.

That's a lot of work that really isn't needed, but it's your project so I'll say good luck.

Have you even decided on a motor yet and mocked anything up?

We had to go clear back to the windshield to clear the carb, and still the rear float screw is under the cowl! You are going EFI though, right? With that and a shorty MSD billet distributor, you probably won't have to cut too much off.
