I think your best bet would be a radio in your ear, or just err on the side of running too slow. Let's say your car is very consistent, you could also practice letting off like say just after your shift into 3rd (A3 trans) and see if you can find some consistency.

I preregistered at our local track as well our bump is set at 11.30.The way I understand it is on the Friday qualifying they are picking the tightest group of 256 for the elims on Saturday and the fastest deth card will be the slowest qualifiers qualifying time and all death cards will range upto a half second slower than that time.
Sounds like a fun weekend for 35 bucks anyway

Sounds like a real pedal festival. NO real way to have an edge, just make sure you have enough power to be able to jump a 1/4 car out on someone right at the end, and I'd probably run my car for qualifying at a detuned state, so if you do get picked you can turn it back up and have enough power to make up for a little bit of a bad reaction time, enough to dege someone out at the last 100 feet.
And bring a pocket full of luck, because the guys that have been bracket/index racing for a long time, are gonna be tough to beat at something like this.

If they pick say 10.8 as the max et, and make the death cards go up to say 11.4, then worst base both drivers pedal to the point that they are just looking at each other going down the track pedaling the crap out of the pass. Oh and the other thing I would do is unplug the brake lights. It's really going to be a pedal fest. I'd try it.

Yup, hence why if I were to go to something like this, I'd make a run on motor not at full tile, and if I'm lucky enough to get picked, I'd then put the bottle in the car and have it on a push button for the last 100 feet, and just try to play the game, but not go too fast in the process.
I still think that if you could set up a timing box that pulled 2 degrees at the turn of a dial and got a chance to test it out good, so you knew exactly what it would do, say have the car run a 10.5, but if you turn it 1 notch it runs 10.6, 2 notches 10.8, 3 notches 11.0, 4 notches 11.2, etc. etc. you could possible have a real way to actually make an adjustment in about 5 seconds that would get you right to where you need to be.

i like the disconnect ur brake lights idea.... the timing idea sounds perfct, but i have a feeling it isnt that easy.... sounds like a fun event but a lil too complicated... and i bet it gonna turn into an extreme peddlefest with the drivers just staring at eachother all the way down the track like said before...

Interseting idea, I would think that the best cars would be much faster than the base ET and be able to make up a difference within that "death car" time. So in reality this comes down to how much seat time you have in your car and know exactly what it takes to make it run a certain time. You want to be first, but not so fast that you undercut the "death card"... While pedaling will be the premise, that actual skill will be in the consistancy of knowing your car exactly...
It would be fun to try! Those with the most seat time should win!
