My take on Home-Made Ram Air.

If i remember right i gained 2mpg from my ram air mod from 100% highway driving back home from school...
i think i got 23.5 mpg or around 330 to a tank 14 gallon fill up...
With just town driving i got about the same 15-16mpg 90 percent city driving at school...
so you are right in line with what i was getting SI...you wont see to much of a gain in mpg in the city but on the highway with that positive pressure...look forward to about 2mpg gain...
cant wait to see the track results to compare apples to apples to see the mph gain for the same DA...
should net you around 1.5-2mph
What raceweight are you going for?

Working on that as we speak... ![Grin](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_grin.gif)
Those runs at 114 were on heavy *** 17" Z06 replicas in the front, with salad shooters in the back.
Greg Welds are coming later this summer.

I like your idea, but your gonna have to stay on top of cleaning your air filter. My slp cai (very similar to yours) would make my filter dirty very fast, within a couple hundred miles. I got rid of it because of that.

MILEAGE UPDATE:
Took a trip to Pensacola Florida this last weekend. Fueled up on the way back up to Montgomery. This is a 165 mile trip one way.
Tallied everything up, and as of the last fill-up in Flomaton, AL I made last night, here's the breakdown... Follow along now, because it's kinda complicated.
Total miles: 334.2
Total gallons: 14.51
Total MPG: 23.03, but here's the further breakdown:
Total Interstate: 209 mi
Total 55+ City: 50 mi
Total Other: 75.2 mi
When you take out how many gallons the "other" miles used by using a know mileage number, in this case, my 3 month average of 15.2mpg, we can get a good feel for what the total "Highway" mileage was. So:
Other Mileage: 15.2 (4.95 gallons used)
Highway Mileage: 27.09 (9.56 gallons used)
+/- 5% = 26.19 to 28.44
Even with the margin of error, my "highway" mileage was higher than ever before, with the speeds involved being 10 mph higher than I normally run on the highway.
Hope I didn't confuse anyone, but I spent quite a while figuring distances so that I could get as accurate a picture as possible of the mileage gain.
Oh, and I need to tweak the design a little bit, the sealant in the upper part of the scoop was blown out where the metal meets, and there are a few rivets broken. I'll post up what tweaks I do in here. I guess blowing the sealant out proves that the intake is doing its job.

Not sure. Probably not that much difference.
Opening is 15.75 X 2.75, so 43.31 sq/in.
If you have 2 4" circular openings, the opening sq/in for one would be 12.56 sq/in. ( 3.14x2x2 ). Double that and you'd have 25.12 sq/in.
18.19 sq/in, I guess that is a bigger difference than I thought.
I'll pay you after I knock you down the SI list a peg or two.

MILEAGE UPDATE!
Put some gas in the tank today, kinda looked at the pump weird when it stopped about $10 before I thought it would.
Tallied everything up, and my city mileage for the last week was 16.96
This is almost 2 mpg up from my long term average.
Seems like the ram air is really helping with mileage!

Mileage Update!
Checked my mileage average for the past 5 weeks, driving to and from work.
My new average mileage is 17.11 compared to 15.14 over the 3 months prior. This is going 590.7 miles on 34.515 gallons of gas.
I think that proves that I've made a solid 2mpg increase. My highest weekly mileage over the last 5 weeks was 17.58.
Haven't been back to the drag strip for further performance testing, due to the heat. I will post up later in the fall with some new traps and ET's.
I figured up that over the last 5 weeks, this mod has saved me $21.27 versus my old average.
At this rate, the mod will pay for itself in about another 3 months.
K&N eat your heart out.![Grin](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_grin.gif)
I still need to seal the sides back up. I made some modifications to the ram-air, mainly re-enforcing the bracing, getting a slightly better angle on the air entry, and repairing some slight damage from a close encounter with a curb.

damn i feel your pain on the damage...mine isnt usually from the curb but from the steep declines...just thinking about that sound hurts...lol...definitely worth it in every way...better gas mileage, more power, and drop weight (ie ac)
