Thumbs up Pat G spec cam results 226/230, Mike Norris tuning

Finally got the car up to Mike Norris yesterday, and got it tuned. First off I'd like to thank Mike for all the **** he put up with tuning my car, apparently my car was falling flat on its face at about 4.5k and up, I took the plugs out, gapped them accordingly, and it got a little better. Well Mike pointed out it was something electrical, so I started checking grounds, and I found the drivers head grounds were loose . I tightened them up, Mike did some tuning, and this is what she put out.

Cam is from Patrick Guerra, 226/230 .598 .600 113+4

By fortmyerspolice

And to point out, my car is leaning out in the upper rpm's, Mike said I needed either a fuel pump or some injectors. But overall, I'm happy as a **** with this cam. I'll post up a video real soon.

Awesome job Patrick and Mike.

My only concern is the sewing machine noises I have now, I don't really know if it's normal or not

Looks strong for a fairly mild cam. I'd be happy as hell with those numbers.

Have an SAE graph?

What lobes on the cam? Looks like XE-R/XFI? Was pushrod length verified or did you just drop in a 7.4 and TQ it to 22 ft lbs?

Very strong torque curve down low for just cam-only. I'm assuming you're running an LS6 intake? I'm very pleased with my Pat G cam. Mine's a little bit bigger (232/237) but now that we got rid of some knock, which I attribute to my catch can, we were able to add some timing and it responded very well! It was pretty easy to tune as well and almost drives like stock.

No, there are EPS lobes from Engine Power Systems, basically they are easy on beehives and good for performance. PR's are 7.425, length wasn't verified, Mike Norris told me the preload was ok.

i abot to install the same cam but with a 112+4 LSA
with stock 241 heads, LS6 intake, longtubes, and a 3200 stall with 3.73 gears.
i'll be running the cam with Comp 918 springs and 7.425 pushrods.

Would love to hear how it sounds????

Those EPS lobes are quite a bit more spring-friendly than XFI or XE-R lobes even though the lift is similar. With a 7.425" pushrod and a quality beehive spring like a PAC 1518 or a Comp 26918, these lobes will allow very stable rpm stability in the upper 6000s. Nice detective work on finding the electrical gremlins. Many people would have laid blame on the cam and not investigated further. Thanks for sweating the details.

Dimitri's goal was to make over 400rwhp and have good street manners. Looks like both goals were met. Congrats!

Very nice numbers bro, especially the torque curve there. Mike is an awesome guy, glad the tune worked out well.

Does the 7.425 make that much of a difference over the 7.4. Just curious.

With the EPS lobes couple with an engine running stock rockers, lifters and head gasket thickness, the 7.425" pushrods give pre-load closest to stock. This puts the pushrod in the middle of the plunger travel and makes for the most quiet operation. As you can see by the graph, the valvetrain stability is outstanding at high rpm.

It's OK Ed, I know where you're coming from. After playing around with PR lengths from 7.350-7.450" with these lobes, the 7.425" pushrods gave the best compromise in NVH and performance. These new lobes are some of Billy Godbold's favorites. They are a slightly calmer version of the new LSL lobe made specifically to be happy with beehive springs like the PAC 1518 and Comp 26918. The acceleration and jerk is much more friendly than XFI and XE-R lobes even though the duration at .006, .050, and .200" are similar. Of course, you know about all how subtle differences in ramp rate can make or break a good cam profile.
