Default baby cam and bolt ons 371/372

yesterday was dyno day for the car in my sig. i figured it would end up around 370 but i didn't know the torque curve would be so flat! behaves like stock from idle but from 3k+ rpm it has a nice pull to it. now it's time to find some cheap ported 5.3 heads and some hi ratio rockers. i'll be putting a video on youtube today and will post a link to it.

Nice. I'm an A4 and with my baby cam in sig, I put down 365/360. Are you a manual or auto?

Very nice numbers! More torque than hp out of a mild cam setup is awesome. Let us know how it does at the track and with the heads/rockers when you get them.

What's the point of going through all the trouble of doing such a small cam? I'd want at least 400 rwhp

What's the point??? How about drivability? Maybe not having to worry about swapping valvespings??? How about personal preference?

I for one much prefer power under the curve for the street.

Why did you even ask this question???

Don't go cheap heads. I had a set of stock ported ls1 heads that was from a very top sponsor. The heads made real good power. Then I went to a out of the box A.F.R 205 head and gained 40hp more. I went from 11.9 to 11.4 in the 1/4mi. Find a good used set if you can't go new. good luck and nice numbers for a small cam.
98CHERRYSS-He just asked a question. I feel the same way to a point. I feel some people go small in fear of a bigger cam. The bigger cams drive very close to some of the smaller cams and get more power. that's why we add cams, for power. my 236/240 drove just the same as my 222/222 cam but with a lot more power. I think that's all he was wondering, maybe didn't sound that way with his wording.lol

With regard to both of these replies, I initially wanted to keep complete drivability since my T/A is my daily driver; AND, I also wanted a custom grind that would work well with the stock converter.

Although the cam picked up 45rwhp, let me just mention that two weeks after the car was tuned I bought a 3600 stall.

It's sitting in my room waiting for whenever I get a chance to throw it in.

I figured I'd be done after the cam, and I'd stick with the stock torque converter...riiiiiiight

Although this cam has excellent street manners (I'm even at the stock idle speed of 550), I'm sure this summer I'll be getting a bigger cam and heads.

That's the sort of answer I was looking for. For an A4 that makes sense if you don't want to have to buy a tc. Also a 12.48 for such a small cam is a great time.

I asked because I wanted to know. You can have big cams that make good power under a curve and if you're going through all the work of a cam, valve springs aren't a big deal. Big cams can have driveability also.

I feel decent about the 113 mph trap speed, but the 1.95 60ft on DR's is ****-poor. When I get the 60ft time down, that'll help quite a bit. I suppose the stall will only make traction a bit tougher to find, but we'll see how it does!

That's a good mph. Once you get the stall in there and some traction I wouldn't be suprised to see an 11 second pass. Very nice ride!

Didn't mean to bash your hard work though. 370+rwhp is always respectable. after the heads you'll have a very nice set up. Looking forward to seeing times before heads then after.

ha those are two extremes..I'm saying go with a nice high 220's low 230's. So my wording was off..a mild cam, not big big but not baby.

well my plans were originally to build a nice DD car that somewhat retains gas mileage and makes some good power and torque for a road race. cam only was the original intention, then wheels and tires, but after doing my work and feeling the butt-dyno, i'm throwing the idea of wheels out and getting heads. especially since a re-dyno from the same shop will be cheap. i also figured with 370 i would have traction issues, which i do, but they're not as bad as i expected. i figure now after a set of heads i'll need fatter rubber. and i already put in dual springs by the way. i wanted to build it to handle more than what i have. i can't wait to see what it turns out like in the end. and as far as the gas mileage result of my setup, i'll report on that as soon as i can take a few trips around town and on the highway without a lead foot

just looked at my dyno sheet again today. just noticed that my ambient temp for the tune was 94 degrees! holy crap! i would like to get the 160 stat put in, some 1.85 rockers, and get a good reading in a nice 65-70 temperature and see what happens.
