We'll be goofing around with a 78mm on a couple 383ci cars. One tonight and the other next week.

Tested one at the shop on a stock internals car, full bolt ons. Before LSX power was 350/367. After LSX was 350/370. Disappointing to say the least. Customer wanted his LS6 intake put back on. Can't say I blame him.

Did he have cats or no cats?

Also did you check to see if the throttle blade opened 100% that might be what caused the low numbers.

Yes, he had high flow cats, and yes the throttle was opening 100%.

383 6m 12 bolt, Stg 2 heads, 236/232 cam, LS6 intake, ported MAF ends, BBK 80mm TB, all the bolt ons. We didn't do any porting to the intake, left it untouched.

Before 469hp/461tq

after 78mm LSX 479hp/460tq

Lost a little hp/tq under 4000rpm and picked up alot more hp/tq after that.

Currently my car is at MTI for a few upgrades. I don't have the Dyno sheets yet, only relaying what Jayson at MTI has Emailed to me.

Last week MTI upgraded my headers from TPIS to Dynatech. Below are before and after Numbers for the upgrades:

Stock MTI 427 Z07 package S1 Cam throught the cats and mufflers as dynoed last June with TPIS headers 494.5 rwhp 500.4 rwt

Added Dynaflow "real" long tube headers 500 rwhp and 511 rwt

Added FAST Intake and 90mm Throttle body (untuned)

523 rwhp and 531rwt with NO power adders

Jayson could not tune as he is waiting on a new wide band O2 sensor that is due in this week. He feels there is a little more power to be found with a tune now that the FAST intake and 90mm TB is installed.

Here is a photo of the Dynatech Long tubes installed.

Here is a photo of the FAST intake and 90mm TB

I'm interested also in what others have gained.

I posted mine in this topic area, but not this thread. I was happy w/ my #'s, but my car needed to be tuned again, couldn't just bolt on and go. Never the less, i was at 382/374 before. After the LSX and tune I'm now at 403/378. I have a TNT F1 Kit, bit am having issues w/ it right now, I'll dyno n2o as soon as I can. Hope that helps people interested in this INTAKE

I gained about 10hp going from an LS1 intake to the LSX, and the torque was the same. But there may be more in it. I was getting KR, so I had to turn the timing almost all the way down (-7.5% or 1.75 deg) and the fuel all the way up (+5%....whatever that works out to). So maybe if I can get another custom tune from James, I can get a few more ponies.

The numbers were:
371rwhp, 375rwtq Uncorrected
355rwhp, 358.5rwtq SAE That works out to 4-5% difference
And ~450 engine hp

Acceptable for a stock N/A motor with an A4 I guess. Now we'll see what it does at the track.

Default LS6--->LSX Intake Bolt-On Dyno Results

I did a before/after back-to-back test going from the ls6 intake to the lsx to see the results and here they are.

I lost 1hp and 1 torque switching from the LS6 intake to the 78mm LSX Intake.

Here's the graph comparing the best runs, ignore the spike with the LSX and watch the curves at a peak of 5600rpm the hp is down about 1 from the ls6 intake.
http://www.cobraeater.cz28.com/cgi-b...20VS%20LSX.JPG

Here's the ls6 intake runs.
http://www.cobraeater.cz28.com/cgi-b...yno%20Runs.jpg

The lsx intake runs.
http://www.cobraeater.cz28.com/cgi-b...yno%20Runs.jpg

So, it looks like at the all bolt-on level the engine just doesn't need any more air than the ls6 intake provides.

BTW, I gained 7hp and 10 torque going from the ls1 intake to the ls6 intake.

Why are the people needing to get retuned? Is it leaning them out more? If so, what are you seeing if the the baseline is 13.0 A/F what is it changing to???

Final numbers are in, in addition to the FAST Intake and 90mm TB we changed headers again, this time Kooks 1 7/8.

Motor is a 427" C5r Block, S1 hydraulic cam, Kooks 1 7/8" headers, FAST intake with TPIS 90mm Throttle body, A/F 13.0:1 with 93 pump gas & a SPEC stage 3 Clutch. This is Normally aspirated, no power adders, no Nitrous, through the mufflers

Base numbers were 494rwhp and 500 torque With TPIS headers and stock LS6 intake and TB

These numbers were achieved after Kooks were installed
539.4 rwhp and 527.7 torque
540.7 rwhp and 530.1 torque
543.6 rwhp and 532.2 torque
547.6 rwhp and 532.4 torque
556.2 rwhp and 544.5 torque Final Pull

Now those are some gains. Actually your #'s are AWESOME through cats and that would put you as one of the highest dyno'ing hydraulic roller cammed pump gas cars. Your torque is just insane. Congrats!!

If am not mistaken he picked up about 27 to 28rwhp with just the lsx intake and tpis 90mm throttle body on his z06 first at MTI and then after putting on the big boy Kooks 1 7/8 headers, he picked up another 25+rwhp! Looks like its time for me to order my Kooks 1 7/8 for my motor since we are running the exact same engine from the same builder (MTI)!
