CDNOHAWK-How well did the 100mm mass tune? Why that mass over tsp 100 mass. do you think the lingfelter is better? On the dyno we removed my filter and gained 5hp. I was told i'm losing 4kpa. do you think a 100mass will help me out? Thanks.

Guys,

The numbers are in post #51.....LOL

Scroll UP!

The tune with the 100mm MAF is spot on.....Brian over at Walls rod and custom is a very good tuner. Jeremy's car drives beautifully and he has no hunting for idle or surging or any other issues common to heads cam cars with so-so tunes.

Jeremy still loves the car and says its a blast to drive!

Maybe he will have time to chime in....I will send him a PM and tell him his thread is back from the dead.....LOL

Nice work Tony and all involved in this project. It is very impressive. I would love to have motor like that for a street car.

I will keep these heads in mind on my next build.

No....I highly doubt it.

The owner lives in Canada and chassis dyno's are alot harder to come by than here in the States!

Plus he has nothing to really gain or prove....the engine dyno and chassis figures are in line and the car runs great....he is really happy with it (but he doesn't drive it enough which is something I bust his chops about on occasion!)

Thanks....this was one of those combo's that surprised me a bit. I was hoping to get close to 650....kinda expecting to fall on the low side of that figure and it was quite the opposite hitting 660+....neither Jeremy or myself minded much though!

Hi guys,

Yes - Tony does find it is necessary to bust my chops about not driving the car a whole lot. The car just isn't a daily driver (for me) and never has been -even when stock. It certainly could be for someone who doesn't mind their car getting rained on every once in a while....

The car works great. Warm it up for a couple minutes and go. It has never stalled coming up to a light or anything like that. In the city I typically cruise in 3rd gear between say 1700 - 2000 rpm without the frustrating surge that many cars seem to struggle with.

I don't have a lot of other LS cars to compare this with, but Brian my tuner said that the 417 hits way harder and earlier than 2 specific vettes he has tuned - each with fully built 427 LS engines. He said he enjoys driving my car more than either vette.

To sum it up, the engine just works really well. The car certainly has been set up to handle the power - full suspension, mickey dr, etc... In my opinion it is about the perfect "recipe" of power and functionality to be completely useful on the street. To me (and everyone is entitled to their own opinion on this) but blowing the tires off the car at 60 miles an hour is cool for a few times but after that gets old pretty quick. I love how this car plants the tires and I am able to truly feel the brutal thrust that that this engine delivers. It still boggles my mind how you can have a specific point of reference on the road, you hit the throttle and the car just eats the road up - and your next point of reference is sooo far past where you just were - it is hard to comprehend.

When Tony and I were discussing this build, I had commented on how I had become used to my old 346/AFR 205/224/228 set-up. He said this engine will always feel fast - it does - and I can't help the grin I get everytime I drive it.

Definitely my favorite NA 417 Cat head build.
Does Jeremy still own & drive this bad boy?
