Default dyno tune disaster

So today I went and had my car dynotuned at a very reputable shop. At the end of the 4th pull, I heard the cars rpm suddenly jump through the roof. I thought that the car’s transmission went from being in gear to neutral. The guy who did the tune said that the car downshifted from third to second on its own. This event led to the car being declared undriveable (cylinder misfire) and was towed home (50 miles). The process of the tearing down the motor down starts tomorrow. I asked the tuner to send me the data from the pulls and everything he had from the fatal pull but I have not received any information to date. Any thoughts, input or previous experience would be greatly appreciated.

What car and what mods? The car in your sig? Who did the tune? You can PM me if you don't want to post it.

Default dyno disaster

Car is an auto, but was in tap shift mode for the run. Pulled the valve cover off the front side and found two bad cylinders. The extent of the damage is still not known. No smoke from fatal pull.
Still waiting to hear from the tuner and the shop about what we can do to resolve this issue.

Are you saying the dyno operator or tuner did something wrong?

Default dyno damage

The motor was built last fall. A built transmission with a upgraded TC was put in last July. The car went through three runs with no incidents. There was an issue with the locking and the unlocking of the TC. When I left the shop last Monday the tuner was unable to explain why this event occurred. I am seeking answers.

As to your question about the turner, I am not his judge or his jury. What I do know is that I turned over a set of keys to a working car and I received back a car that needed to be towed home.

This car is not your typical tuned GM car. Because it is front wheel drive, it has a different type of transmission and an upgraded TC. Is or was the tuner operating under a set of assumptions/premises that should not be applied to this car? Did a mistake occur? If there was a mistake was it as simple as a accidental downshift, was the transmission damaged because of the locked transmission or was it due to the tune that is currently on it, or something all together different?

Thanks why I am posting this thread.

Sometimes crap happens. Only way I could see it as the tuners fault is if they down shifted it on the dyno

Will it even let you use the tap function to downshift to an overrev. I thought it had built in lockouts to prevent that?

Was the car being sprayed on that pull? I just saw that your signature had that in it.
