Default Dyno results Shorties to long tubes.

I had JBA shorties and a 2.5'' off road Y-pipe on my car and it made 419rwhp with the converter locked. I changed to a set of EBAY stainless Long tubes and a 3'' custom Y-pipe. It gained 15 rwhp with the long tubes and y-pipe.

Home ported 243's
232/232 598/598 cam
Fast 90/90
UD Pulley
EWP, Lid
Borla cat back open
IH8FORD BUILT 4L60E
YANK PT4000
JonCR96Z Tune

419 with the shorties, 435 with the LONG TUBES with no other changes, but we tweaked it a little and managed to get 439 the last pull .

Yes, and they were only $188 shipped. We didn't know what y-pipe worked so we made one that should be better than any we could have bought.

Here's a pic of the old and the new.

I agree good info. However "I had JBA shorties and a 2.5'' off road Y-pipe" and "I changed to a set of EBAY stainless Long tubes and a 3'' custom Y-pipe." I wonder how much of that was because of the change from 2.5" to 3" pipes?

The collector on the drivers side header was real close to the floor board so I cut part of it off and added a slight bend to it . I also had to grind just a little on the a arms but nothing major. For the money you can't beat them. I don't have the link but they are all over ebay. Just make sure you get the ones that have the collectors like mine.
THANKS

I saw that the drivers header collector was shorter than the passenger and was wondering what happened there. I agree though for the price you can't beat that at all. Nice gains bobby!

The main goal was to get the ball flanges on there and it was way to close to the floor board for that. So we dropped it down and straightened out the angle some (parallel to the car). Then make two more shallow angles back to the y as opposed to the two almost 90 degree bends that most y-pipes make.

I really thought that with the better headers, bigger y-pipe tubing, less bends and better merge that it would have seen more of a difference on a heads/cam car.

I wonder if everyone will have to do that for these headers to fit, or just do the grinding on the a-arm that bobby mentioned. Was it just because of the custom Y that you guys had to modify the collector like that? Maybe some of the gains you were expecting were lost by modifying the collector? A 1 7/8" header might of gave the gains you were expecting.

The collector is just close to the floor with an upward angle. I don't know how a regular y-pipe would bolt up and fit.

We just added the ball flanges for the ease of removing the exhaust and less likely to leak.

There isn't much of a turn at the collector could it hurt the power, I guess but it wouldn't be but a few if any. I would still have expected more fromt he 1 3/4 headers.

Isn't 20rwhp about the accepted norm for LT's?
