Default 00 C5 M6, Tick SH2 cam, mild ported/milled 853s, LTs, UDP, LS6 Mani

Hey all. I decided about a month ago to order up a Tick Street Heat Stage 2 camshaft (231/238, .617/.586, 113+3) camshaft for my 2000 Corvette convertible 6-speed, along with OBX longtubes/offroad x-pipe and an ASP UDP. I had previously installed an LS6 intake manifold, XSPower catback, AFE CAI, and had it tuned by my friend Kyle at Hitech Motorsport in Elk River, MN. The car previously put down 327/335 with those mods.

Stock vs LS6 manifold/AFE/catback:

My tuner/installer talked me into also having a mildly milled/ported set of 853 heads put on at the same time as the headers/cam/UDP. The heads were done by Darin at Hitech Motorsport. Milled around .025 IIRC. My buddy just got done doing the install for me.

Mod list as of today:
LS6 manifold and TB (both unported)
AFE CAI
ASP 25% UDP
Aforementioned Tick 231/238 cam
BTR dual springs, 7.400" pushrods
Milled/ported 853 heads
OBX 1-7/8" longtubes and ORX
XSPower catback
42# injectors (for future E85 use)
160* thermostat

Honestly I was hoping for a little more but here's the result:

Made a bunch of pulls, all in the 415-417 range, torque in the 386-389 range. SAE corrected, Dynojet.

I think the setup really wants a FAST manifold/bigger TB to really shine. We're gonna try it on E85 too, maybe next week. This was on 92 pump gas. Could be that the 7.400 pushrods are slightly too long with the milled heads too, but the geometry looked good according to my installer.

Your thoughts?

Idle vid.

Dyno pull vid (from the next room). After this pull he straightened the fuel out a little.

Torque seems a little low to me, but all dynos don't read the same unfortunately. Are you shooting for dyno numbers or actual performance? If the latter, just drive it and determine if you're happy. If the former, spend more money and/or go to a 'happier' dyno

It's been years since I had a built 347 LS1, but I think I managed 430-440/405 on one of my dynos with the stock LS6 manifold and milled 5.3L heads. I barely picked up anything by adding the uber expensive Fast intake and ported TB. I'd have to dig out my printouts to verify.

Don't worry about the dyno numbers just yet. My car is a great example of this....dynos low but performs exactly like it should

It looks a Little low but not that far off. When I had my 228r set up I hit two dynos around me , both the same model dyno jet. One was 430/400 and the other was 420/384, so I wouldn't worry about it too much, take it to the track and see what she does.

You'll need more injector than that to run e85. I run Acell 44lb/hr injectors and I've been told they won't support e85.

I ran the same green-top 42s on my last H/C/I LS car making around the same power on E85 without issues. We'll try it out. If it doesnt work we'll go back to 92.

Also, if it doesn't pick up more than maybe 10hp/tq on corn I'll probably just go back to 92 so I can get gas anywhere. We will see.

I wouldn't displeased with a nearly 100rwhp gain from a heads and cam swap.

Guess it doesn't hurt to try. I've seen people say it worked and others say it wasn't enough injector. I'd like to try too, but not sure it would be worth it.

Got the car back. Have to say 'good job' to Kyle at Hitech Motorsport on the tuning. It really runs great. Idles flawlessly, drives nice (not quite like stock, as you can imagine, but very well). I can set the cruise at 55mph in 6th gear (1200rpm) and it's fine. It feels marginally quick. I guess I got jaded with 600+whp cars.

More cam ****.

How long had the car sat before those idle clips? Seems like it struggled a bit arriving at idle unless it was the audio quality. Was the idle surge in the daylight idle clip resolved?

Car sat for a couple minutes in both cases. Both hot restarts. Idle surge in the dayight video is fixed. He's a buddy of mine and is still tweaking the hot restart a little, but as it is I can live with it.

Good news: my injector duty cycle with green-top 42s is only 70% on E85, making 420rwhp SAE corrected.

Bad news: it only made 420rwhp, lol.

My tuner tried all sorts of timing changes and fuel changes and nothing made it pick up more than 3-4hp and tq over the E10 92 octane in my area. A little surprised but I guess with my static timing being around 10.6:1 it's not really timing limited on 92.

That is interesting. I would just go back to the 92 octane then. Too many variables witb e85. If the gains were significant, then I'd run it, but that's not the case.

I think that the results are solid. Comparing the H/C curve to the stock curve as low as 2k rpm you are right there with the stock heads/cam.

Enjoy it!

I would not be concerned with peak numbers...looking at the gains from the previous dyno graph tells me it is a happy combo.

+88whp and 55wtq is a pretty good gain imo!

The good news:

This is in 1300-1500' DA at Rock Falls Raceway in Wisconsin. 275/40-17 Nitto NT05R tires.

The bad news:

Bad oil pump / pressure relief valve. Needs a teardown. Hopefully no other carnage.

Thanks Martin! Yeah I'm pretty happy with a couple 11sec passes as it sits. It's a convertible with no rollbar so I'm really surprised I didn't get booted.

My buddy's c5z with a cam/headers/magnacharger (502rwhp) didn't run any quicker than 12.0 at 120mph yesterday, so I was pretty happy with my n/a setup.

That is why dyno numbers aren't everything!

Did you have any wheel hop with the NT05R drag radials? Wondering if I should get a set on my m6 c5.
