Is 500whp reasonable?
Hey guys, I have this project going for a small s10. Completely blew my budget. It's been almost a year and a half of working but I'm finally close. I am a full time sophomore in college, and part time worker at $10 an hour. It's been tough, I'm so close but so far. Happy to be almost finished. The Lq4 is going into a small s10 stepside single cab. Here's what I have, is 500whp reasonable or a stretch? With proper suspension can I make a 9 sec pass on some juice? The truck weighs about 2800. I weigh 125lbs.
Parts:
-Iron Lq4 block (stock bore & stroke)
-Wisco Pro True Dome Pistons +4cc (higher compression)
-Ls3 Heads Mild Port
-Super Victor Intake (Will port)
-Holley 750 Hp
-1 7/8 Stainless Works headers
-Tsp 660 valve springs kit
- Mellings high volume oil pump
-Msd 6010
-Ls7 lifters
-Looking at cams any advice? I was hoping to make some PTV clearance with the small dome with two valve reliefs.
Suspension
-8.5 rear end 10bolt
-Cal track
-90/10 Calvert racin front shocks
-275/60/15 MT radials
-- will be getting rear shocks, front race springs when I get a chance and the $$$.

Yes it's doable. But not cheap and not easy. You'll have a far easier time with it if you procharge it or something vs NA. Are you pretty set on NA?

By you wanting to run a carb ill say you'll need a custom cam to accommodate that and the juice also....
Most vendors don't have "shelf" cams cut for LS motors running carbs.

You should consult one of the cam guru's on this site for just the right cam, they know things you haven't yet thought about in selecting "the" cam for your set up. Ill go out on a limb here and say the correct one for the power you want will be at least 240@.050 and you'll probably have to make peak power at or above 7000 rpm. My 2 cents.

I would/did call Cam Motion and speak with Kip or Steve AKA
Speedtigger for a cam for your build. In the mean time search

They make both. The LLSR is getting a lot of attention right now, because they're making a big splash. To be honest, I think you have a higher chance of achieving your 500HP goal NA with LLSR vs without.

I have no direct experience with the BTR S4. Looks like a great cam - especially for a head that is heavily intake biased like the LS3 and LS7 heads are.
Most of the LS3 heads stuff I've seen REALLY shine has been high-revving. So, your valvetrain stability will become very critical. And this is where solids can also really help you extend your RPM range. They also carry power past peak incredibly well. So, if this is a track car, that might weigh into your decision.
