Default Highest rwhp from NA fbody???

Just wondering what people think or know the highest rwhp from a stock 346 N/A build in an fbody is?? I know all the highest numbers like 530-540 were in a c5. But what about in a 4th gen fbody?

Cartech was making well over 500 on some VERY heavily ported 243s back in 08 or 09. Im sure its very near mid to upper 500s with aftermarket heads and intakes but they were undriveable on the street, so build for what you are going to do, not what you want. Shooting for above 500hp is going to cost you ALOT of bottom end and peak tq due to the cubic inches and max cr you can run. even bumping E85 will still cost you.

Wont be cheap and will need to spin 7500 RPM.
Start with Mast Small Bore LS3 Heads, 11.5-12.0:1 Compression, FAST LS3 W/Mid-Length Runners,
LLSR From Cam Motion specced by Darth LOL. and all the little details.
Good Luck!

Yes. The first post in that ghost hawk build thread is where I ended up. I kept it updated with everything. But its worth reading the whole thread, because beyond the mods, I posted every mistake I made. There are a lot of nuggets in that thread beyond the list of parts. I do think there may have been another 20 or so HP, but I was not going to get it. I was losing compression and on disassembly I found hot spots on the bearings. My rings were not badly worn but they had no spring in them anymore.

Be cool if you did beat it. Mixed emotions for me though. Lol

Honest question -- you think the mast small bores might beat the Mamo 220? I kind of doubt it myself.

That thing really was a badass 346.

I'm gonna stick with ls1 stuff, I know you make crazy power with ls3 and even ls2 conversions but I'm gonna see what I can get out of ls1 style intake and heads

I got 491 and 435 out of the mish mash of parts i put together but as you can see it falls off hard at 6400rpm which is from the bad porting on the used fast 90 i bought and installed. Its coming off and im putting on an msd atomic air force that will be ported by tony mamo. Along with a bunch of other stuff to make it rev happier like hollow stem valves, short travel lifters, an electric water pump etc, hopefully itll be up around darth v8r with 538/441

The main issue is, all dynos read differently and the numbers can be off quite a bit from one to the other.
I may have an interesting setup early next year to toss in this thread though.

I may dyno mine soon, gonna have a local dyno meet in January. Been curious to what kind of power it’s making now but I’m gonna retune with the new dual wideband setup.

I'm sure their 9.6 ET sbe ls1 car has everything under the sun possible done to it. Still impressive though what can be achieved with an all out effort sbe ls1.

I live in Australia and over here we had a lot of ls1's sold new in Holdens. Thousands of them, and now the engines are everywhere for $500-$1000 like your 5.3 truck engines are over there. Because of our current crappy exchange rate and taxes and shipping costs are higher than ever, your parts now end up costing double for me over here. So I'm going to be trying max effort out of 5.7 ls1s because I have 4 of them already. I paid $200 for one of the long motors that was a perfect runner.. it broke a valve spring (didn't drop a valve) and it was ticking.. that's it. And the owner wanted to throw his money away and get a new engine.

I have small bore ls7 heads and T&D rockers from a Daytona nascar and that will be my next mod.. remove the stock ls1 heads and fit these with an ls7 intake. I just wish I didn't have to cut valve reliefs to run any kind of decent size cam. I also have a Comp 243/250 here I can use that made 500rwhp in an ls3.

I had compression at 11.5:1, and I am not affiliated with Texas Speed.

I can see 575-600 rwhp being done. Limiting factor will be how high you’re willing to spin on the Stock rods.

As far as streetable and on the Stock bottom Darths 540 rwhp will be hard to beat. He could have beat it imo by 10 or so. His short block was tired lol. Was an awesome build.

take the 100% streetable and make it stock CI but not Stock bottom end and it’s a different ballgame

I think I seen damn near 600 on a short stroke big bore. Basically a 4.125 x 3.27. Spun to the moon and back
