Default Mustang vs. Dynojet vs SAE #'s?

I did a coulpe searches but no real luck...

I had my 2000 TA dyno'd a week ago (mainly for tuning after my 228R cam instal), but was dissappointed in 340 rwhp.

It was a Mustang dyno (dang I hate saying "mustang"), and I don't believe it was SAE corrected. The graph doesn't say anything on it.

Are there any conversion factors to see a predicted SAE or Dynojet HP?

I figure at a 12% difference, a dynojet would show me at 370 hp.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamometer-results-comparisons/191978-livernois-motorsports-stage-one-head-cam-results.html

he got 10.5% more hp and about 8.5% more torque by going on a dyno jet. 370 hp (on a dynojet) with cam and a4 sounds about right.

Mustang dyno numbers are usually SAE

Where did you get tuned? APE or badls1?

A recent article in a car magazine stated the difference is around 5%.

Between 2 different dyno's / cars I have seen an average of 8.837% on HP, and 7.264% on the TQ.

I don't see how you can pick one number to measure the difference in Mustang and Dynojet numbers. The Mustang measures torque and RPM, and thus HP since HP = torque * RPM / 5252, while the Dynojet measures how quickly your car can accelerate the rollers and tries to deduce HP from that. Problem is, changing parts on the chassis changes the HP reading on a Dynojet, while they don't on a Mustang. Different tires/wheels, different tire pressure, different flywheel or driveshaft (steel vs aluminum), etc will all change the HP measured on a Dynojet, without touching the engine. If you hold all those variables constant, you could get a number for a particular vehicle, but it would not be applicable to another vehicle.

Thanks guys. I went to APE in Mt. Clemens, but I really wasn't all that pleased with the service. I'm a grease monkey by trade, but why do most mechanic shops suck when it comes to customer service?

Any thoughts on how I can get more? I was thinking to change out to 3.42 rear gears. Any write ups out there? Although, gears shouldn't change a mustang dyno HP, just track times.

I have heads and cam and dyno'd 383/346 @ APE, yes the service for the tune kind of sucked for me too, I had to wait 2 hours for the tuner to get there when I was told to be there at 8 am, very not cool.

You could do some heads, a bigger cam, do you have cats?, asp pulley, ported TB.

Don't forget guys that some Mustang Dyno run Dynojet simulation so people could be happy. So u really should ask the shop before u dyno ur car on a mustang dyno to know if its calibrated or not.

Yeah, I had the same dyno service at APE. I took the day off work and was told to be there at 8am. Kirk showed up at 11:45, almost 4 hours later. I went out to breakfast and was ready to go out for lunch. I read every magazine in the place. Even the Mustang mags. LOL

My buddy got his car tuned there and same story. That's kinda odd that they would schedule stuff early knowing the guy always shows up late.

When I get tuned there again, I'll be sure to mention that if I show up at 8am, kirk better be there too. I dont mind people being late but 2hrs is damn rediculous.
