Default 69 firebird lq4 dyno results

I recently had a TSP cam 228/232 .600 lift 112 LSA installed in my LQ4 along with a set of ported 243 heads. I just had it on the dyno yesterday at the house of power in Houston. The reults were 325 HP with 360 Torque. Running a truck intake with stock injectors with shorty headers. Looking for advice on what else I can do to improve the HP numbers.

I would focus on exhaust and intake. I also would not worry much about dyno numbers through a stalled auto but more trap speeds if you ever go to the track. I would think you should trap around 115 mph and higher with exhaust tweaking.

I will give you a example of dyno numbers.....I only put down 396 rwhp through a loose converter but trapped 122 mph with massive transmission issues.

I'm new to all this and I'm learning as I go. Do I need bigger injectors and Intake as well as long tube headers? Car is in Texas and I'm bringing it up to Alaska where I live as you can see by the plates on it. Need to get all done there before we bring it up.

We put a set of $289 Stainless Speed Engineering Headers on a 73 Nova and with the same engine and trans combo, They fit well.

As far as injectors, that would be a question for your tuner to see where the duty cycle is at. If you do need injectors, gtp 36 lb. injectors are a very good option a can be had for around $100 for all 8. That is what I run with my setup.

Some 1 7/8 Lt headers with good flowing exhaust all the back would be a very nice gain.

Also something to look into is a converter that would match your setup better. It's not going to give better dyno numbers but your car will be much much faster with a converter that suits your setup better. Something around a yank ss3600 would make a world of difference not only off the line but shift extensions also.

Beautiful car also

Yeah it took a year to get the car to look this good. Left floorboard, trunk floorboard, and had to find original seats. Some knucklehead put 04 GTO seats in it and it just didn't work. We had a 69 Camaro console/shifter for the 4l80e put in it I think it looks better than the Firebird one. restoring ain't for the weak hearted. I hate to say how much I'm into it now lol.

There's another 50-60 hp somewhere. I did 400 rwhp with a similar cam in a 5.7L .

That's what I'm thinking. It should have more HP than that. It's a tire shredder now though for sure. Does anybody know if getting rid of the stock LQ4 injectors for bigger would help?

Unless it's running lean or starving for fuel, no. As long as the engine is being properly fed and the A/F ratios are good, larger injectors would do you no good.

What size are the shorty headers? What is the rest of the exhaust? Size? Mufflers? Over the axle?

Here is a picture of the headers before install. That's the size pipe from the collector out. It goes through flow masters and then over the axle to complete the system.

Not sure what dyno. All l know its in Houston called the House of Power. My builder sent it there and the tuner's name is Chuck. Not happy with the guy either. Full of himself and would not give me answers to my questions about improving the power.

Some longtubes and free flowing mufflers like borla or magnaflow would probably pickup 20 to 30 whp. The guy you took it to does a lot of high end big hp builds so you might wanna find someone else if you felt brushed off. Truck intake may also be choking the airflow also with that cam and ported heads.

I did GTP 36# injectors (42# LS) and a 340 lph fuel pump. Also found out my tb wasn't opening all the way. Double check yours just to make sure.

If I change out to those injectors and pump, will it need reprogramming again?

Different injectors will require a tune. The fuel pump will be fine as long as the fuel pressure is the same. Were you running out of injector or pump while on the dyno?
