I'll do the cam first-then may be the Fast. I'm trying to save for C6Z06 but it's so hard!

Do you think that there will be any piston to valve issues w/ the CheaTR cam w/ the heads milled .040? I'm kind of liking the idea of stock driving characteristics and sound.

Nice results!!! How about adding the new ls7 manifolds they are supposed to bolt right up to an ls2 so I believe they would fit the ls1 right? I imagine you would need to have an exhaust shop run the exhaust of those manifolds.

Guys my car is a daily driver-last year i made 447rwhp with some AS heads and a 228/230 .571/.573 cam. The car was loud-too loud-i'm 35 and and love the sound of power BUT after about an hour it gets boring. The car would stink at lights-raw fuel smell. You couldn't just jump and drive it-you had to let it idle for a bit. Low speed driving was a bitch with the EXedy since it's so grabby. So I lost 30 rwhp-BUT I love driving my car again. Plus the damn thing is a sleeper-you should of seen the look of a fellow Z06 owner after I gave it to him on the highway. That cam is going to be my next mod. Guys this like having your cake and eating it too! There are no downsides.

My GTO will be joining the quiet club soon too,I want this type of setup.I ended up going with a Comp 214-222 559-566 115+4 and I'll be adding the cam soon but will be buying Edle's or TEA's heads and adding them to my car over the winter...

I'd love to see 385RW with a dead stock idle

Congrats Arun

Questions for you and Tony:

Are you running the stock 02 LS6 cam right now?
Did you mill the heads? If so how much?
What length pushrods?
Are you running the standard AFR spring with stock lifters?
Who did the work for you?

These AFR's sound like an awesome combo. I am running 12.50's@110-111mph now in my bone stock 99 LS1 with LS1 intake, stock unported throttle body, 2.73's, TPIS headers, Halltech, 3000 stall and stock timing/AF etc

How much power do you think the AFR's/LS6 intake and ported throttle body combo should pick up?

I was thinking about 40RWHP and drive completely like stock with the stock cam in there.

It's VERY tempting. I am no longer interested in the rough idling, non smoggable setups anymore.

DR's, 3.42 gears, AFR/LS6 should put me in the mid-high 11's with a stock cam and stock driving characteristics. Amazing what the right combination can do!

Hi Chris,

To answer your questions. Yes I'm running the stock 02 LS6 cam, the heads have milled .040, I'm running 7.35 pushrods, I'm using PRC duals and Ti retainers and checked the install heights myself, stock lifters, and of course I do all the work and tuning myself. The ported TB I don't know how much it can pick up-mine is cleaned up and smoothed out. I'm going to be switching to the cheatr camshaft later in the year and hope to pick up another 10 horse. My goal is to run 11.70's@122 on my Pilot Sports, I ran 12.0@118 on the supercar tires when the car was stock so it should be achievable-the Pilots hook real good! You won't regret this combo-its nice and smooth-all the go without the show! The AFR's are a work of art-they are a really nice piece!

Cool thanks man! Milled .040 your comp is around what? 11.0-11.2:1 depending on gasket? What was the compressed gasket thickness?

Pippy,

I think the AFRs will be worth 30-35 rwhp (depending on how much you milled) and the LS6 intake with ported TB would easily be worth another 10 on top of that. That's a solid 40-45 rwhp and absolutely no driveability downsides. Add an LS6 cam or CheaTR cam and you're looking at another 20-30 rwhp.

Thanks Patrick. It is VERY tempting

If I did a cam I'd probably do something emissions legal on 218/218 110 or 220/200 112 +3 where I have TPIS headers and 3 inch Xpipe setup.

My initial feeling is to stay with the stocker though

Forgot you had the upgraded exhaust. LOL. The 218/218 110 cam would make some REALLY nice low and mid range torque. What a blast with an automatic!

My AFR's (milled .024") with MLS gasket, LS6 intake, ported stock TB, 1 7/8" LT custom headers, dual 3" with cats, and TSP 233/239 112LSA cam like 26* timing as well. Any more and a tiny bit of knock was present.

Yep

I have 2.73 gears as well so area under the curve from 2500-6000rpm is critical for me. (3000 stall helps down low)

I'll be shifting the combo at 6200rpm max for longevity.
