Default ETP 4.8/5.3 vs. Trick Flow 205's 30 rwhp difference!!

Vehicle is an M6

HPE S cam
American Racing 1 7/8 Headers
American Racing Midpipes with High flow cats
Fast 90mm
Ported LS2 TB

We gained a solid 30 rwhp over the ETP 5.3 230cc heads. Props to Trick Flow for making some very nice heads!

Was the compression ratio the same? That could be a major contributing factor.

On a LS2 it is prolly the 4.0 bore 225 version. Good numbers guys, and thanks for posting the results.

They were the 215's with stock compression! Sorry I made a typo in the original post!

There is a sticky about Vendor vs Vendor threads.. Please go read. I am going to let this post ride, but I am going to watch it. If this gets out of hand I am going to look for individual nutswingers to punish. I dont like Vendor fights and I will ask PSJ to talk to any Vendor who instigates these type of threads...

I think HPE buys from both...so just relax.

I wish Chuck would have tested the TFS 225 head that is made for an LS2, maybe you could do that next?

It's amazing that the TFS heads raised the entire torque curve, Congrats on the new found power

I know Chuck buys from both. You know just as well as I how these threads quickly get out of hand... I have witnessed you lose your temper many times about vendor vs vendor threads. I would personally like to keep you guys around. No one needs to have a stroke due to high blood pressure.

As for my car.. I have seen the TFS 225's #'s and there is no dispute on the same flow bench your heads against others flow very well. I admit it is time for other vendors to upgrade, but I cant justify the cost of changing my heads w/out seeing atleast a 50rwhp increase at the same boost levels and I doubt I would see that...

I need a few more threads like this to decide what route I go for heads when the 408 is ready. Trick Flows are looking very promising.

If the 215's can do this... the 225's would do even better So keep that in mind.

Aftermarket casting/new technology > Stock casting/old technology Just more of a reason why you shouldn't skimp on stock heads if you don't have to.

No, I've tried tuning it out before on other cars, but typically changing the a/f ratio and timing under peak torque does not effect the numbers too much. Dips are usually related to the car, or advance ground into the cam vs. what it actually has in the motor. A cam ground with +4 from Comp won't always have +4 in it due to inaccuracies in grinding... then take into thought inaccuracies in timing chain manufacturing and crank key placement... All these factors effect the outcome of what timing actually is. Thus, sometimes you will have a car that might just have some retard. Only way to know for sure is by hooking up a degree wheel and finding out!

Isnt that something that should be done when installing the cam anyway?

An **** person would or engine builder I would expect to. But IMO, if it is already ground into it, then DtoD should be good enough. If I had a wheel and patience I would have on my car. Probably would have pulled past 6300RPM too since it falls way short for a TRex. But I like the low and mid range I am getting out of it right now.

Interesting results Chuck. those tfs heads are pretty good stuff. We ran our ETP 215 a-b test against our ported ls6 and 5.3 heads, same motor, same dyno same day. We saw almost 44 hp between our 5.3 heads and 215 heads. I will post the dyno sheets as soon as I can figure out how to. This was on a 346 though.
