Patrick G cam dyno #'s and track times...
230/230 612/604 110+2
Car put down 374hp/6400rpm 360tq/5000
02 SS w/lid,pacesetters,hooker catbk,ss3600,3.73.
Before cam the best time was 13.23@107
Tonight,cam only was 12.80@113
This was with traction control on and BFG kdw's.
Shifted at 6200rpm and went through at 6000rpm.
Traction is not to be had without the ASR.
This is what I thought I was looking for in a cam only car.Being
my Daily driver I wish I had got it on a 112/113LSA. It is mean as
hell sounding, but sitting in stop and go traffic is a little frustrating.
So cam comes out in favor of a smaller one.If anyone is interested,it
is listed in the forsale section.

A 6 mph gain at the track is probably around a 60 rwhp gain. That's a solid gain for an automatic. It's a shame you can't find someone to tune that cam correctly. 10 degrees of overlap is not small, but it's still less than a lot of popular cams on the market.
A G5X3 on a 112LSA has 14 degrees of overlap. An MS3 on a 113LSA has 14 degrees of overlap. Basically, those popular 112LSA and 113LSA cams have 4 degrees more overlap than the cam you have and would be that much more unruley in traffic, yet many, many people run them on the street without issue. It's all in the tune.
Don't get hung up on LSA. It's the overlap that counts. If you can't find a tuner worth his salt to get your car running right, look for a cam with closer to 0 degrees of overlap. Those require very little in the way of tuning. But remember, there's no free lunch. Go with a 0 degree overlap cam and you can kiss that 6 mph gain in the quarter mile good-bye.

That MPH should be good for about a 12.0 if you get it to hook, maybe better. The KDW's probably arent helping, but throttle control will help some. I would imagine the 60 fts werent that great.
I think the results are great for just a cam switch and the car has a lot left in it still. I have a Torquer V3 on a 111 and it isnt a bad driver, so I wouldnt give up on the cam so quickly.

a cam to have decent street manors "you like to see around 6* of
overlap"It would be easier to tune and still see solid gains over a 0*.
If I had the cam ground on a 112, wouldn't that have put me right at
that 6* overlap?
As for the tune, the shop has around 4hrs in it so far. There has been
gains made, but like you say,it is a slow process.I am not sure how much
more time I want to invest in it.
Patrick G. Thank you for the cam spec and the offer to look at the tune.
My tuner is tied up this week at the P R I show. When he returns,I'll see
if he will email you the HPtuners file.
I'm sure there was more to be had at the track. It was a last minute
decision to go.Lined right up after a 40min drive,tires at 30psi and
made a pass.I wasn't looking for et, just wanted some mph to go with
the dyno #'s.
Thanks for the feedback guys

I'm not hung up on LSA either, but a cam in the 230+ range on a 110 has a good amount of overlap regardless. I did a car on saturday with a cam motion custom that was 230/235 112lsa... (https://ls1tech.com/forums/multimedia-exchange/825889-pictures-video-heads-cam-camaro-b4c.html) worked on startup and idle VE fri night late; got lucky, got to tweak cold startup again on sat AM, and still spent 3-4 more hours on it and I use real time tuning. I'm sure if you can give your tuner more time he can get it better. It's a lot to do to have all the bases covered in a 4-hour shot and driveability spot on, trans tuning is a matter of taste and takes some time.

You should be able to get that to idle better - it is not a very big cam. Try turning off all your adaptive idle learning and just play with base airflow. Once you get the idle smoothed out, start playing with the tip in and throttle follower air to get driveability where you want it. It just takes a lot of time and iteration. My Z28 has a similar cam and overlap, and it took a lot of tweaking, but it ended up sith good driveability, an 850 idle, and it never stalls.

You also have to remember, you're shifting way too soon here. You're dropping out of your power band on every shift (depending on your shift extensions as well). I'd say there's a good bit left in that car without the ASR on and upping you rev limiter and messing with your shift extensions. I'd guess atleast another 2-3mph?
As far as driveability goes, thats ALWAYS going to be an opinion and nothing more. It all depends on your tuners ability and obviously the combo. Hell, I drive around with 24 degree's of overlap and IMO its not too bad.
Good luck man, hopefully you stick with what you've got and just fine tune it.

I concurr with Patrick.. I am one of those guys running the G5X3 on my stalled, bolt on car. Louis/Sean @ LGM tuned my car when they built my motor.
I drive my car daily.. in dallas traffic, it idles steadily @ 900rpm's w/ no surging,bucking,..
I put down 403/405 to the wheels on a moderate tune..
Like the others said, keep that cam, get a decent tune, and you'll love it..
FWIW, i still get around 20mpg on the hwy even with this set up and driving sensibly. Have not been to the track as of yet due to the Tq is causing my tranny to slip some in the upper rpm's...
Good luck.. & nice numbers!

Going to visit the tuner again on Monday.I will keep ya'll up to date.
I realize to some, this is a small cam.But I think alot of members of
LS1TECH would drive a topfuel funny car on the street if they
could And thats cool.I'd try it once.
I like the power of this cam,I'm sure it would pull more mph if I
pushed it,but it's not as important as the driveability to me.
Before I had Patrick spec me a cam,I was interested in a couple
Futral grinds.(F2,F10,F11).The F11 is similar to what I have,but
on a 112/114+4, it may be what I'm looking for.I dunno.
We will see what happens Monday.
Thanks guys for all the info and feedback.
