CAM only F-body to take out a C6Z06!
Hi, i was wondering if it is possible with all the supporting mods and a cam to beat a new C6 Z06 on the streets?
No weight reductions either, just motor mods, and tranny rear end for strength
If so any ideas on which cam and specs? Thanks!
OK no longer cam only, we can do Anything to the motor but still has to be N/A

can do anything to the motor...hmm okay how bout we take out the stock LS1 and stick a 408 stroker in there with the right heads and cam, gears, tires, suspension, and then we MIGHT be talkin'....should make 500+rwhp but still be quite heavier than the Z06, so yeah its a toss up. The Z06 has the aerodynamic advantage thats for dam sure and up top there are very few cars that can hang with a LS7 "Z"

If we're talking cam only with an M6, this is doable, but super tough. Here's what I think:
You must have the right cam
You must have optimized exhaust
You need all other boltons, including lid and preferably a FAST combo
Your clutch must hold 100%
Nothing must break - especially tranny and rearend
You must not spin the tires (much)
You must be able to drive, i.e. launch hard AND not miss a shift
The race should be where your car and you work best (dig, street start, roll from x to y speed)
You should have weight reduction or gears (both is best)
If the Z06 driver is good, you're gonna have a tough time.
If he's not stock, gonna be even tougher.
Both, well...you're likely hosed --- but will still have fun!
I ran a Z06 from 5-80, and he pulled 2 cars on me in that short space (not as bad as I thought). I can tell you it's doable - but you DO have your work cut out for you and any mistake at all and you lose.

it is doable from a dig. A large cam (MS3 for example), A large stall (4000) and Gears (at least 3.73). And if you can get it to hook (slicks and the right suspension) you can get one off the line and up to a quarter. The zo6 is not easy to drive. It takes a good driver for one to run good times.
Add some spray and you should definatly be able to take a STOCK c6zo6

Well what do stock Z06's put down to the wheels now? Im taking a logical guess around 470rwhp considering the flywheel is rated 500hp. So i figure with heads and cam all boltons it should be very close but be achievable!

With a properly set up heads, cam, torque conv and chassis combo, it is more than do-able.
We have more than one cam only customer with bolt-ons, converter and gears running low 11's on nittos in a 3300-3500lb F-bodies. We also have more than a few cam only GTOs running 11.00 to 11.20's in the 3500-3800lb range...
The main point is, these are all well thought out, sorted out combinations. With the right planning and execution, its not all that difficult.
Thanks,
Shane

120mph is more likely than just 'possible' on a big cam-only setup and stock C6 Z06s I've seen at the track run 120-124.
That's pretty durn close.
Now that that OP opened it up to more than just throwing in a cam, we can add ported heads and 1.8 RRs to the mix and give that Z06 a run for its money.
Or just spray it.

It will take on the STREET a a big (proven) cam and a set of heads (LS6, Trick Flow, Dart, ECT) better than stock LS1 and a set of Drag Radials (and the tires will be your best friend LOL) if the guy in the ZO6 (hook up great and have the power to run up top end MPH) can drive any at all. Then you still have your hands full. Good Luck with it.
