Default Stick shift or auto?

I have always had my muscle cars (3 Z28's and current Mustang) stick shift... I love driving it, super fun.. I know on the track auto is more consistant...but my racing is mostly on the street the few times I am lucky to get to race...

Do you guys feel the auto is more consistent on the street as well, or a disadvantage? Any regrets going from stick to auto?

I am remotely entertaining an auto, b/c I see more choices in the used car market if I decide to get a new car (seperate thread )...

If your thing is racing, I would say auto. If you actually want to get some enjoyment out of driving a vehicle in stock form (yeah...I know that aftermarket stalls are great), I would say manual.

IMO manuals are more fun.. requires more driver involvement, in turn, making it more entertaining to drive.

cant beat a3 for the races and callouts, but for scaring the ricers and stangs on the blvd, and for smoky loud tire spinning shenanigans cant beat a m6

I have an m6, my girl has an auto... Both are LS1 camaros and as nice as her car is I can't stand driving it on the street compared to mine. I'm not as quick time-wise down the track but when I do road courses I would hate to have an auto. I like putting myself in my power band whenever I want.

I don't see how people who drive their car more than 2x a week have Manuals.

Whenever I have to drive my bro's car it ticks me off. It's like: Jesus Christ it's 2009 and I still have to shift the gears myself? Come On!

only reason i went with an auto, is cuz it seemed like the 10 bolts were always breaking on the manuals, and trying to get good driving a stick with a weak 10 bolt..

if you want to drive your car, get a stick. if you want to be a passenger, get an auto.

I look at it differently. I drive my manual car to work. I'm stuck in the office crunching numbers for eight hours. At the end of the day, I get to take off and enjoy it. I look at it as my reward for putting up with that crap.

You either get it (the fun/enjoyment of having more control over what your car is doing), or you don't. I'm pretty sure that if you took a poll, the average person in the general public (i.e. not this place) would agree with me.

The arguments in support of aftermarket stalls are a mute point, in my opinion. With the exception of a forum like this, that's clearly loaded with people that have the tuning mindset, the average person will only ever drive an A4 that has a STOCK transmission. That being said, anyone that's willing to tell me that a stock A4 is more fun to drive than a stock M6 must be smoking crack

I've had both. Stock versus stock, I'd take an M6 over an A4. When it comes to built and stalled A4s, I'll take the auto any day. As far as the manual being more fun to drive, that's just a personal opinion. I enjoy my A4 at least as much as any manual-transmissioned car I've ever owned.

I look at it as it also takes more skill to drive a manual car then a auto.. Doesn't take much skill to push a gas pedal to the floor and just sit there. Plus it's just plain boring as ****, sorry but I like to spin and chirp my gears, not sit down like im a fat person with Doritos watching tv

6 speeds are just aggrivating with a 10 bolt, once you get past that though, I wouldn't even look at an auto.

This is true but, when you roll race put it in first or second depending what speed your going. If its anything 60 over i let the computer do the work

I have beat many a m6 this way.... To the OP dont let these guys get u down about a4's there just a bunch of typical HATERS! lol I love and owned both M6 and A4's and they both have there ups and downs. With the little mods I have I ran the below time with bald 245 tires and 2.73 gears I might add So for all you hating M6 drivers put that in your pipe and smoke it! haha

Moral of the story is.... THERE BOTH GOOD CARS AND, THEY DO THE SAME THINGS!. MAKE YOUR DECISION ON WHAT YOU WANT.
