2011 Mustang GT - GM better power up
I just read the Ford has finally flexed some muscle and put some power in V-6 and Mustang GT. Enough to edge out the new Camaro pretty easily. A V6 with 310 HP compared to a 304 HP V6 Camaro wins every time. I know 6 Hp isn't much but that car is way lighter then the Camaro. The new 5.0 Mustang GT which features a new head design (still dohc) will be pump 415 HP which is just under an LS3 but don't forget how much lighter that car is and it's sitting on a solid rear axle. It's going to be quick, easily in the 12s out of the factory. As a huge GM fan that bugs me a little. I hope GM can find some cash to flex out a few more ponies as they usually do. At least The Z28 is going to come out and trump Shelby's GT500. Should make for some interesting street racing though. I can't wait till Kobe gets a chance to embarress a new GT owner.

but how well will it respond to mods?
the manifolds look like shorty headers right out of the box, it will be expensive as **** to cam, and supposedly the mustang will gain weight to meet newer safety requirements
besides that, do you really think GM can't do some minor changes to the ls3 and get more power?
I do think it's awesome they are finally giving the car some ***** though, now if only the new *** end wasn't so damn ugly

It will respond very well to a hand-held tune just like the 3v GT's and OK to other bolt-ons. Much better to spray because of its CR.
I've said this countless times, the safety regulations are only going into effect in 2012 (?) and are not mandatory until 2016. Ford confirmed its curb weight at 3603lbs for the manual coupe.
Sure they could but do you really think they would give the SS Camaro more power than the Corvette? That will never happen.
Both of the back ends are terrible looking, but the '11 GT looks a ton better with an over-hanging wing like the GT500's.

The rear of the Stang looks horrible. I don't understand how they could make the front look so nice and screw up the rearend so bad. There is plenty to complain about in the new Camaro as well. I don't see it aging gracefully like the 69's did.

The 2011 is also more aerodynamic.

mmmmm I am not so sure about that. The current GT keeps up with a stock LS1 fbody till about 70-80 from what I am told here. This one has over 100 more HP, and a better over all engine.
And am not so sure about this one either. Considering how close a stock Mach1 is to a stock LS fbody. A full bolt-on Mach1 would easily take a stock LS1 fbody.

I don't think anyone was saying a stock LS1 will be too much for the new 5.0. Mild bolt ons should put the two about even, and cam, heads, or even a converter will put the LS1 out front. This is assuming the 5.0 runs in the 12.8 range.
But really, who has a stock LS1 anymore, most of us shouldn't be worried.

These new 4.6 engines will not respond very well to boltons or head and cam swaps either just watch and see.
