Import vs Domestic Top Speed???
So I have a friend with a STI & he believes that Import's top end is a lot better then a Domestics... I don't really get him sometimes because he was the one who was complaining about his STI top end. "I hate not having top end! Car feels like it slowly runs out of steam, and it does, tq plot shows it all."
For example he listed:
Evo
GTR
350z/370z
Supra
S2000

Evo
GTR
350z/370z
Supra
S2000

"import vs domestic" is a stupid title for this thread. stock vs modded? does a GTR top out higher than a cobalt? how about a ZR1 vs a maxima? this is just comparing everything to everything. for the record, the imports win: Bugatti Veyron...well unless you count the SSC Aero as a production car. like a said, stupid thread title, and pretty much a stupid thread.

Haha oh trust me I try... I always give him **** because he thinks he can make a 12.4 1/4 mile pass. When hes never been to a drag strip & I can never get him to go.... Ive even offered him $100 if he can make a 12.4 on his first couple passes. But NOPE! afraid hes going to "strain" his clutch Ive beaten his car before & his interior is completely gutted. Its funny his favorite phrase is "Weight reduction is the best possible modification that can be done to a car"

Yea pretty true... But also those Supras that show up are CRAZY modded! Don't get me wrong. Supra would be the only import Id buy. But "Most" Corvettes can pull a 200mph pass with less mods. But I get where your coming from.

According to some Texas Mile Corvette racers I was reading a while back, the Corvettes hit a major wall at just over 200 whereas the Supra is good for well into the 230s-240s when properly built.

If it is built by lets say a German car manufacturer, but it is built here in the U.S, BMW for instance manufactures cars here, does that make it a "import" or a "domestic"-- since it was manufactured here in the U.S.?
could someone clarify that for me, thanks.
additionally,
Chrysler for several years was owned by Daimler, a German company and now it is owned by Fiat, an Italian company, are they now "import" or "domestic"?

Supras are well known for their top speed capability.
They have all the necessary ingredients: close ratio gearbox, slippery body (very low coefficient of drag and frontal asrea), motor with great high-end, high-revving capability.
This doesn't mean that imports are necessarily better high-speed cars. It just means that there are imports that can achieve very high speeds.
For example, an EVO and STI would make poor top speed cars. They have high drag coefficients and large frontal areas.
Don't forget the crazy things corvettes and trans ams have achieved at the salt flats too.
Joe Kugel's 3rd gen Trans Am broke 300mph and the Sledgehammer C4 corvette hit 254mph.
