Default 99 Z28 vs 99 Cobra

Well its getting close to summer and it has always been a race between my buddy and I, at a 50 mph roll last year we were door to door, at the time mods were....

99Z28- P/P TB, Lid, smooth bellow, free air, dumped stock exhaust no muffler.

99 Cobra- ORX or H not sure, I think H, Flowmaster catback, K&N intake, Diablo tune.

Currently I am installing LS6 intake, ORY, and LT's, and new plugs and wires, and a mail order tune.

He just bought LT's, and has a lowering springs sitting around, also bought a stock intake and is int the middle of porting it.

He claims he will be around 330-350 to the wheels......

Both cars are manual

Roll or dig... We will most likely do a roll first then take the dig to a track this summer.

Thanks!

P.S what will I put down?

You should be in the mid-high 330 range at the wheel.

Get a set of DR's and 4.10's like stated above and you'll have no trouble with dig or roll.

I was hoping closer to 340-350

I would like to do 4:10's but my rear end seems to be holding so far.... Guess the true test will be when I get some more suspension mods... SFC's, PHB, LCA'S etc...

you MIGHT see 340-350 rwhp depending on the dyno though. i know i ran my buddies 96 cobra that had intake and free exhaust and a short throw shifter, when i had manifolds and cats i barely beat him but when i had LT's he had no chance and this was from a dig. as long as you can drive you should be good IMO

I don't know a ton about those Cobras, but don't think he will be near 350 at the wheels, I'm thinking more like 310-320. I would say you should get him by 2 cars.

I agree with the hp numbers here. Hell be trapping in the 106 range with his mods so you should take him. My brothers 96 cobra runs pretty damn good from a roll(same type mods as the 99 above) but I put a car or two on him in the cadillac when it was stock and I was trapping 108 from a roll.

Cobra will be around ~330rwhp/315RWTQ with a custom dyno tune. If that Diablo tune is the handheld box tune, he's hurting himself by not getting a custom tune. I'd estimate a good ~20-25 RWHP is left on on the table with a box tune.

You'll have your hands full if he can drive and knows to keep his shift points above 6500-6600 rpm.

(See what I did thar? LOL)

Uh, yeah...cause a 96 is the same as a 99 Cobra. Dude, come on.

A 99 cobra wil darn near trap 106 bone stock.

True, but neither the OP or Cobra owner mentioned anything about a custom dyno tune. So subtract that 20-25 hp and we are back at my prediction of 310

I agree...I just want people to understand that there's a lot left on the table with a custom tune with those mods and the box tune hurts more than helps at that point. You how ignorance can spread man...LOL.

Depends on the car, everyone is different. My car made 350/350 without the ls6 intake. I would imagine I am somewhere between 360-370 now with the ls6 intake. My mods will be the exact same as yours, so you might be higher than you think.
