No that doesnt make it a drivers race between a c5z and fbody ur talking about a car that traps 106 or so vs one that traps 117. Thats not a drivers race at all 108-110 vs a 110-111 car is alot closer to being classified as a drivers race...Either way the new stang is Bad Azz, And i despise stangs

I think the GT will have it bag pretty easily.
You need to keep in mind that these 12.7-12.8 times for the GT are from the initial magazine testing from the likes of MotorTrend and C&D. They never got a LS1 Vette anywhere near those times in their testing. Heck I'm not sure they did much better with a C5Z in their tests. Comparing Motortrend's crap times to the C5 fastlist on Corvetteforum is beyond ludicrous. Those are the best times documented for stock C5s, I believe these 12.7-12.8s from the GT will prove to be average at best...
I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a well driven GT at a good track crack a mid 12 if not better. I expect they will bitchslap your average stock C5, especially an auto.
I'm really interested to see some results of the normal bolt ons/tune on the new GT. Be interesting to see if the car is really nearly tapped out or if simple mods still gain a fair bit. I'd like to get a couple bolt ons for my Z06 just to be on the safe side...

the 2011 GT is going to be way under rated power wise,,,, anyone remember the 390 hp that the 03-04 cobra supposedly put out at the flywheel? they typically DYNO'D 390!!! Ford is pulling the same thing here. Its probably their way of avoiding another performance recall like they did on the older DOHC cobra when they didn't put out nearly the advertised power.

that being shown i think a basic mod vette ( cai, headers, tune) will take a new gt. The new stang will take the f bodies, and new camaro ( realize the camaro is alot heavier), but I still think the power and weight advantage with the vette, the vette will win. Remember you're taking a brand new car up against an at least 6 year old car. I'm tired of all the hype and bashing the f bodies have gotten with the new stang, but now the vette as well, when the car hasnt even hit the streets yet? come on guys.... And also about the f body to mach 1 comment. I had a basic bolt on ( headers, ex, lid, tune) on my 99 auto ws6, and i was able to beat mach 1's. It was close but I came out on top mid way through second.

put me up against a new camaro and ill beat him, in fact i already have. i just put up 4 videos of camaros being beaten by a corvette, a c5. Corvettes have a better power to weight ratio. Why do you think an f body can still take a car like the new challengers? because they're lighter. If the challenger was lighter, it'd for sure take the f body and mop the floor with it, same with the new camaro. the point is they're HEAVIER. Thats what sucks up those extra horses that they've tacked on. It would be a close race with a new 5.0. I just cant stand how people are talking so much smack on the f bods and now vettes when that car hasnt even hit the streets yet.

and for the record, as far as a c5z and a regular c5 go, in hp numbers, it doesnt take much to get up to the 405..remember, that 405hp is to the crank. Once you put on headers, a good cai, and a good tune, you're right up there.

I ran a 13.1 @ 111 stock with a 2.x 60 time. Had a friend in another stock 6spd hit high 12's at 111 with better traction. Both cars were '99 coupes. Check Corvette forum. Low 13's high 12's aren't uncommon for 6spd cars. Last time I weighed the car it was about 3180 with most of a tank of gas in it. Much lighter than a GT. A 6spd C5 will definitely be a contender vs. the new GT. The 2.73 auto C5's won't be. The 3.15 autos might catch a break.

You think headers, cai, and tune are going to make a C5 LS1 run 116-119mph traps, which an '02+ Z does bone stock??? Dream on my friend.
It's not just the HP, it's the total package of the Z: M12 tranny, lightweight wheels, lighter titanium exhaust, thinner windshield, I could go on and on. Do some research.
A properly driven C5Z will beat the hell out of a bolt-on C5.

there are two zo6's, and here's a c5 coupe
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cG4zmH18YLw
so lets look at some numbers-
road and track report the z06 coming in at 13.1 in the quarter, stock.
http://musclecarfacts.net/2002-corvette.html
www.exoticcarsite.com reports the zo6 doing 13.0 - 2001 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 4.6 13.0
here's a 98 stock c5 doing a 13.3 in the quarter. now remember, the 98's were even rated LESS horsepower than the 01 and up.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaPtN...eature=related
so if it's possible for a STOCK 1998 base c5 to go 13.3 in the 1/4 mile, and then the z06 coming in at between 12.7 and 13.1...then wouldnt it be possible for a 2002 base corvette, with bolt ons, to keep up with a z06? Does to me, and im sorry to burst your bubble if you're one of these uptight z06 owners who thinks nothing's as good as a z06, then you need to remove your head from your ***. I had a guy like that in my neighborhood..kept going on about 405 horsepower. I've got lt's, exhaust, NO tune, a port n polished throttle body, and a cold air intake. We raced and I won. Fair race. Thats all I have to say. Welcome to 2010

also for the record, i NEVER said anything about trap speeds. I know alot goes into the z06. I know they're lighter, the titanium exhaust, all that, but when you make up it in horsepower, who's to say you cant get the same times. i rest my case

You seriously think a Z does 13.1 in the quarter and 4.6 0-60? WOW. GM's own times (which are conservative) are 12.4@116. Go look them up.
I could post vids of grandmas driving Z's going 13.1 in the 1/4 too. I'm glad you beat your friend that doesn't know how to drive his Z. You beat the driver, not the car.

Seriously bro...it takes a pullied Cobra to keep up with/barely pull on a Z...now you're going to tell me you run with pullied Cobras too???

I switched over to the Z a couple years ago from a stage 3 SRT-4. That car was fun on the freeway but from a stop light the tires would just spin.
I lost to an AMG car (can't remember the type) from a light because I blew the tires off and he just pulled away and after that said "screw this", wanted to get back into RWD - thought about going back to an F-Body or Vette (have had 3 vettes and 3 F-Bodies in my life so far) and the prices on C5Zs have been dropping like rocks so I decided to pay a little more in monthly payments and just get something I KNOW I'd be happy with
Did you check out the fast list on corvetteforums? Another good forum is www.z06vette.com.
I plan on trading this one in and upgrading to a C6Z when this one is paid off - I don't think I'll ever be without monthly payments LoL

By the way back on topic, I think an auto C5 LS1 would lose to the new Ford Mustang GT. A 6-speed would be closer, I still think it would lose. You'd need a hardtop (i.e. lighter) M6 FRC or similar LS1 vette to keep up/possibly beat one.
