Default LS1 T/A VS Duramax Diesel, Who will win?

So i have a friend who has a 2008 Chevy Duramax Turbo Diesel. It has roughly 550hp and supposedly the "fastest car at our school". He has never ran it at the track but the dyno said it would run mid 12's which i want to call bullshit on. I have a 1999 T/A putting 384 rwhp(some mods in sig). so i think ill easily pull away but he thinks his trucks the ****. so what do you guys think will happen?

I also call BS, that thing must way 3 tons. 14's, definitely. 13's possible.

There is a guy that goes to the car meets here, big modded F-350 turbo diesel, ran 14- flat in 60* temps.

Yeah it ways around 6000lb's and mine weighs around 3400lbs. and the horsepower difference is only about 130 or so because its lower then 550 and idk if its to the wheels

the f350 is heavier than a what I am guessing is a 3/4 ton silverado.
the dmax is one heck of an engine. at 550 hp, the torque numbers have not to be outstanding. Probably not mid 12 fast, but in the 13s for sure.

You will win, and it's way over 6000 lbs.

I have a 2500 hd eclb 6.0 gas that weighs 5900 lbs empty, and my 2500 duramax ccsb weighs 7500 empty.....

If you do an 1/8th mile sprint on the street, he would most likely win. If you go to a 1/4 mile track where you can hook up, you would beat him pretty easily.

^^^^^^^ WHAT HE SAID!!

been there done that, almost got my feelings hurt! the outcome is gona depend on a lot of different things. mods to truck that u don't know about, race from a dig, is the truck gona race 2wd or 4wd. 1/8 or 1/4, heads up or u giving up length for weight. oh, driver(s) most important

best case, it is a almsot stock truck with a programmer and exhaust, and he leaves in 2wd. on the street, he will probably jump u 2-3 out of the hole, but u should run him down before the 1/8 (maybe) but def. in the 1/4

worst case, he has the trans built and the front end beefed up and launches in 4wd. 1/8 ur feelings will probably be hurt, but u should still pull the 1/4.

don't underestimate those trucks!!!! they haul ***!! for what they are.

wish i could put a duramax in my trans am.

good luck, and don't give up any length.

I know about everything he has, he has a edge programmer, cold air intake, bigger fuel lines (blows black smoke like crazy) and im pretty sure that about it, i know he doesnt have any thing crazy like some of the other guys who have 1000hp trannys and combine turbos. idk how he got 500+ hp unless he doesnt know what else his dad has in it but that what he says it has. he also has a tool box which is prob a hundred more pounds or so. i know off the launch he'll beat me easly because im slow out of first as it is lol but from a roll im pretty sure id blow him out of the water.

Borrow / buy some slicks ,, or drag radials do some more weight reduction there is no reason why you can't be there or out launch him ... Non adjustable tubular lower control arms are 100 bucks that got rid of my wheelhop and just hooks now ..

depends on the speed of the roll. if at the right speed, he may already have the turbo spooling and it wont be a blow out.

IIRC, in an older issue of motor trend, a dmax powered 1 ton GMC ran a low 15 second 1/4. Thats with just under 400 hp. So add 150 hp to that, and your down in the high 13's, not to mention the loss in weight between the 3/4and 1 ton. Still not saying he'd win, but it would be close. Do the race and get a video.

well i already know my car can runs low 12's, that truck has 560, his has like 520 -530 not 550 , and mine weighs about 400lbs less then the newer camaro and his truck probably weighs more than that truck with crew cab and tool box. but no doubt thats a very impressive article. but its hard for me to believe that programmer have that truck almost 200hp

You will most likely beat him. I had an 05' ccsb duramax that would run pretty well. On the street from a dig I could rape on most cars since It would hook (4wd launch) well. You should pull him. I had under 500 wheel would run 8.2-8.3@82-83mph 13.1-3. Mid 12s (est. never ran it) on the 175 shot.

I just wanted a reason to post an old video of my car lol. Back when I first got my car back together on a 75 shot really just playing around.

Don't let some of those trucks fool you, but I think you have him beat.

Don't race him on street tires or you might be in for some trouble. You should be low 12s with that HP and unless he has custom tuning and a lift pump he's probably not in the 12s.

you will win at everything but a dig unless he doesnt use 4wd .A friend has 5xx in dmax and runs 12.88 at only 105 . But with 4wd it will launch awesome .

Agreed. A friend of mine has an LMM that makes 575RWHP and runs 12.8's @ 106.

He will gap you on the street from a dig tho. That is assuming the truck is 4WD
