Default What would it take for an F-Body to pull on a 2017 GT Mustang?

I raced a 2017 GT Mustang for fun. I didn't expect to win, but I was impressed that I could keep toe to toe with him until 3rd gear. About 70MPH he inched away from me and my LS1 ran out of steam. I expected him to rip away from me from the dig. My car only has airlid and catback, would it be possible to win a rematch with more bolt ons (full exhaust, intake manifold and pulleys) and a tune? Or is the new coyote untouchable in this older car without cam or forced induction?

That is interesting. About all I have done performance-wise is a lid and catback. Of course I haven't raced, in Mexico, in well over a decade. Never tried, in Mexico, with anything that has been made recently.

Full exhaust , gears from what it seems like based on your first race. Cam for absolute show off mode

I recently traded my 14 5.0 for an F150, but was able to get some runs in with it and my own weekend t/a before I traded her. For most of its life with me it was just a tune A6 car with a catback and it blew the doors off my t/a every time, my t/a is headers and full exhaust/lid/tune/ssra/and the basic suspension mods. Sounds like you raced a stock 5.0 with no aftermarket tune, I can tell you that before I threw the tune on the 5.0 the t/a ran a lot closer to it than it did after the tune. I eventually went to a centri setup on the 5.0 and the t/a had zero chance at that point.

I personally believe any f body should be running the full bolt on basics but if you are not then get them done and then to overtake the tuned 5.0 crowd I would look into a stall or heads/cam/intake work. Its not going to take a crapload of HP to do it but that 5.0 responds well to mods it really comes down to whats done to the one you are racing. good luck
