Default LS1 F-body vs. LT1 Corvette

Are these cars evenly matched or what? As the previous owner of a 94 LT1 automatic 3.07 coupe and now 98 T/A 2.73 coupe I must say It's very close at least on the street. My Vette did seem slightly faster with more scoot off the line
but my T/A feels like it pulls slightly stronger out on the highway
and this goes in line when I had my Vette and I raced a friends 01 Z28 automatic coupe. My Vette had nothing more than a fresh tune up, cut air lid, and deleted cats, his Z28 according to him, an Airlid and Flowmaster(don't know which gears) I put at least a car on it up to about 80 the few times we raced and let off. Out on the highway we would be dead even, then he would inch away. I really would like to run into one but just haven't yet...what are your experiences racing stock to stock or similar modded LT1 Vettes?

Oh, the only mods I currently have on My T/A are new NGK TR55's, MSD 8.5 wires, Free mods and a Flowmaster Muffler, so nearly the same as what I had done to my Vette and I payed around $8k less than what I sold my Vette for.

Pretty close races, as you said, down low the LT1 vette should be very close, LS1's pull hard up top.

Close indeed but also remember that vette's have slightly different trans valve body config (holds in gear a bit longer).

I think an automatic LT1 Vette will do 0-60 a hair faster than an LS1 with similar gear ratios(3.07 vs 3.23, 2.59 vs 2.73) but when they are 6spds I think they are about dead even.

I have never ran an LT1 c4. A coworker has a modded L98 and its not that slow, but my car walks away from him hard. He wants an LT1 Vette, but his is paid for.

Honestly never had a run in with an LT1 Vette. I would have loved to run one when my car was mostly stock. Now it wouldn't be worth it unless it was very modded. I'll have to throw some mods on my 94 and then go look for one

powers about the same the difference is in your gearing the ta has higher top end gear very slight but it's there. Put the same gearing in these and I get you'll sit next to each other.

I've owned 7 L98 cars(5 Vettes, 2 Firebirds)

they are no joke at the stoplights, took several LS1's on the street in my bolt on 90 GTA and my lightly modded 91 Formula 350 would beat my 98 T/A when my friend had it(I bought it from him) at the lights..this scar is begging for a converter and gears!

an automatic LT1 Vette puts down about 250-260 @ the wheels compared to about 280-290 for an auto F-bod. C4 Vettes weigh about 2-300lbs less though. If you figure 100lbs=10 hp...reasoning why they are so close.

They definitely dont get enough credit. His is an 89 M6 Vette with ported intake, deleted cats, catback, and 4.10 gears. It is pretty insane from 0-60, but after that my car starts pulling away. I like it alot and wouldnt mind having one, but for the price of a clean L98 car, you can have an LT1...

What does a well running L98 Vette run bone stock?

Low 14s I believe... back when I used to drive an A4 '94 Vette, I used to mess around on the street with a buddy that had an A4 LS1 Firehawk. I would always get him down low, and then he would scream past me about 80-85mph. I had another friend that had a stock A4 '95 Vette, and he ran a 13.6 @ 99mph at the dragstrip.

Before I got my vette I had a 01 T/A. At the time I raced my friends 94 vette the T/A was bolt on only and so was his vette. We raced from various rolls and a dig, I beat him every time. LS1 F-body> LT1 Vette.

QUOTE=ScreaminRedZ;9087691]What does a well running L98 Vette run bone stock?[/QUOTE]

90-91 were the fastest years...low 14's with automatics and high 13's with a 6spd at about 98-101mph.

That goes in line with my experience too. LT1 Vette is faster up to around the 1/8 mile after that. Here's a vid I found between a 92 Vette and 98 Z28(I think they are both similar modded) notice how easy the Vette takes it off the line...but the camaro eventually catches it.

I can understand a 6spd LS1 beating and auto LT1 from a roll...but I think from a dig the LT1 will take it from a stoplight if it has atleast 3.07 gears like mine did. I think they are so close it all depends on the gearing too...most LT1 automatic Vettes came with 2.59 gears. :

Some automatic LS1 F-bods have 3.23's, if they were to race they are probably really close from a dig.

~100mph... I've never heard of an L98 trapping 100mph stock, but then again I never really looked into them.

From a dig, the Vette might win.
A 2.73 geared Fbody might not catch the fiberglass Vette until its too late.
Definitely a close run either way.

Just because LT1's don't have the topend an LS1 does, doesn't mean they don't have respectable top end.
Get rid of those cast iron choker manifolds and put on the same but better basically shorties the LS1 comes with and he won't catch that Vette.

Those 2.73s mentioned are going to kill the Fbody from a dig and lose it a little bit of that great top end that the LS1 is known for. The Vette's aero and lightweight help it out from a roll and a dig respectively compared to the LS1 Fbody, as well. I imagine the Vette would still eventually get passed with a similar launch from both cars, though.
