i have friend with exstensive knowledge of these motors and you will make more power, cheaper than with an ls swap. use meth and a quick spool valve and roll out. and i am a diehard v8 fan even have the tattoo and i woukd say stick with either of the jz series 1j or 2 j the diffrence in the blocks are very minimal

I don't see how you'd make more power cheaper?
The supra's engine is not built-proof no matter what everyone thinks. Sure it can take a beating but at some point north of 600 you're going to need to build it. The trans will need building too. And fuel system of course. Oh, and a stand alone. And if you aren't doing it yourself labor and a tuner who probably charges somewhere in the 1-2g range to tune it properly.
I like your idea of the LS powered Supra. You'll be able to tune it affordably. Beat the snot out of it. Sound awesome. And even shave some lbs if you go with an aluminum block. Depending how much power you want to push, it'll probably be cheaper. I'm thinking 700+.
