Question Shipping a car

I moved from CA to DE last year, and left the car back home. I now am in a position to bring it out. Has anyone shipped a car? Had good luck with a service? As you can imagine I am particular about my car, however its just and FBody so it wont warrent the same respect from a company as lets say an Aston Martin. Thanks in advance for any help you may have.

I just shipped a 09 ZR1 from Sacramento, CA. to PA. It was a LEARNING experience! There is so much BS out there. Whatever you do dont go to one of those sites and put your info in and get multiple quotes. You will never EVER be left alone! 100% only ship your car enclosed hard side or you will have one bitched up disgusting looking car if you dont.

Advice. Only go with a owner operated business like the following
Horseless Carriage-located in NJ

Angel Wings Transport-located in GA.-also very nice to deal with 2 guys 2 trucks (770)713-1582 you can also let him know you talked to me. He actually set me up with Deyber/Coar transport.

Deyber/Coar enclosed transport specialist took care of me. (727)-871-4524
They were fair, proffessional, delivered on time to my front door, trailer was nice, very detail oriented. They ship everything but mostely exotics. Just let them know Bruce/Grey ZR1 they just brought to me last week recommended you. They should take good care of your car at a fair price.

You will get some crazy quotes if you're not careful from brokers.
This is what happens when you get that quote.
They put it up on a website and let people bid on it after the broker had already told you yup it'll be picked up in 7days. They would quote say $900 to do it. Your car may or may not get picked up by someone you have no clue who they are. They can pick up and drop it at a shipping yard hoping someone else is going that way. It'll sit there until someone does. You will hear, car is on its way, truck broke down, bad weather, etc etc. Another popular one is piggy backing. A open carrier picks up your car and a enclosed trailer follows both loaded. They swap cars on and off as they go showing up with yours enclosed SHADEY! Another one is the broker gets your deposit of $150 or so. Then they say you pay the shipper when they arrive. Well the transporter can pull up and say its not that amount I'm not taking your car off the trailer until you have the cash. They will have papers saying you owe $XXXXX amount of money so call the cops you will have no choice. Its a UGLY UGLY business!!!

Horseless carriage is a pile of ****. I ship cars all the time. Vance Worley shipped his 2 cars horseless carriage back to CA and it took over a month.

I stick with intercity lines most of the time. I have also used reliable and Thomas C Sunday.

Dont use any of the small companies you will regret it.

3-500 bucks. It would be better if you take a a rental car and take a road trip IMO.

I had good luck going with a smaller company/broker service sourced from Ebay. You guys have way more experience, but it's not all bad.

I would but because the time of year its not really that wise. In addition to the cost that it would take to buy the ticket and gas and time off work, I'd have to buy tires, as the DR's wouldnt make it the 3k~ish miles. It made the drive to and from NY a couple years ago but that was before the 4k stall, 3.73's and LT's. It would still make it however the MPG would be horrible.

Wow, with all of the horror stories I'd rent a truck and the little trailer you can drive the car on and transport it myself. It'd just cost you a few vacation days and a few bucks but at least you'd have your peace of mind man.

Well I wonder what costs are for renting like a regular u haul truck and trailer to do it myself, I'll look into that as well. I haven't written off shipping it, I knew i'd be looking at a bit of money that way. Just never even gave thought to renting a truck and trailer.

It wouldnt be worth it. With gas and hotel you would be close to or more than a shipping company

I used All American Trucking and Transport, and it was great! I believe it was either 7 or 8 days from pickup to delivery. Ca- Va. Cars were dusty, with a couple bugs on em (top of open carrier) but otherwise perfect.
