oil pump question

Default oil pump question

prolly a dumb question but is it worth changin out the stock ls1 oil pump for a ported one,mine is brand new and only has 600 miles on it but i figure since im in there doin the cam anyways?or shold i not bother is it that much better ? thanx i just dont wanna be doin things twice,or stuff thats not really needed,if its worth it/or reccomended i def will tho no point in chancin it

like you say no point in chancing it, you never know with a stock one. And extra oil flow never hurts anything.

i can get you a nice one, same as i use for a good price, it works well. i would change it, you have a 99, thats the iffy years on oil pumps.

ya but its a brand new gm long blockput in 600 miles ago,but ya ill get that pump off u to ill let u know cuz im orderin up a cam soon sum time in feb so ill be doin all that ill let ya know

If the pump you have is new and is running good y bother changeing it to something that could be a defect.

something that flows better,and since im in there and its less then 200 bux i might as well do it ya know...

Unless your stroking the motor or need more oil I wouldn't bother and if it is a defect it will cost alot more then 200

I actually stuck with my original oil pump throughout the two cams I had installed. My oil pressure was always perfect so I didn’t want to chance it. I hear so many stories of people swapping out pumps and having really low pressure or really high pressure and it doesn’t ever level itself out. I have always thought the oil pump should only be changed if your having trouble with the existing one or if your going with a larger engine or something of that nature.

oh, its a hole new motor? brand new? not rebuilt?
its a hard call at that. you hate not to change it if it aint broke, but i have seen many people use the ported blueprinted pump, and they work fine. mine works very well, and its 3 years old
either way, i get a pretty good price, let me know

hmm well maybe i wont bother if theres a bunch of horror stories,and i do have a perfectly good one,if i have teh extra cash when i order all te stuff then ill get it if not then ill save myself the trouble,thanx guys :thumbsup:

If the oil pressure was good before I don't change the pumps.

i personally wouldn't mess with the oil pump unless i had to. haha i get paranoid just talkin bout it. oh good! i see u posted its stayin in, good choice if ya ask me. good luck with ur cam install
