My spec 3 bit the dust, C6 Clutch/flywheel question
My spec 3 decided to bite the dust & started slipping after only 15K miles of pretty much no abuse.
Yes, I broke it in properly.
It took only 15K miles & 6 months (yeah I drive allot, mostly highway) before the slippage, which 1st started in 6th gear while I tried to passed car on the highway, reared its ugly head.
For those who know me, you know I've only raced my car twice this season, don't beat on my car & pretty much only drove it to car shows (including Atlanta & Ohio which accounted for nearly 6K of the 15K miles I put on the car this season) all summer.
So with little to pretty much no abuse on the clutch, I'm kind of leery of buying another spec unit.
Bums me out since I figured I'd be "good to go" with this clutch in my car for a good couple of years, not 6 months.
I have an opportunity to buy a new C6 clutch kit & LS2/LS7 flywheel for 529.98 shipped.
My question is:
Do you all think this a good upgrade for my car, or should I attempt another spec purchase, or even something else?
My car only makes 334HP/345T so the spec 3 should have held up.
If you all think it's a good upgrade, the billet flywheel (also has 15K on it) will be up for sale when the new clutch is installed.
Thanks.

Wonder if it was a bum clutch because if a healthy Spec 3 died that fast, a stock C6 clutch wont last nearly as long.
I had a Spec 3i for a long time, aside from the clutch changing a little during break in, it didnt seem to wear down a bit.

do you mean ls7 or ls7 clutch with a ls2 flywheel? my car is pretty muchs tock, but when the clutch goes..I really want to get a ls7 clutch if its possible...since the zo6s have been dynoing 440ish to the wheels...that clutch should last a long time at moderate power levels.

i think he means ls7 clutch with ls2 corvette flywheel. That should hold at least 400rwhp+ all day, i mean it has to or you wouldnt be able to drive the new z06 long before GM had to keep replacing clutches ever 4k !!!

First I'd check to make sure no oil is getting on the clutch. That would cause an early problem in any clutch. If I got the car a few months ago when it started it would of been a better chance to get a free replacement clutch which definitely helps the wallet

And I still have no way to get the car to you, well I do, me, but I have no way to get back home once I drive it there!
None of my "pals" wants to take a 140 mile round trip.
Actually 280 since I'd have to go back to get it when repaired.
So the car just sits while waiting on a way to get it to you:

Butch, I had a spec 3I in the Z I had. You knew I raced that car a lot. But the Spec never made a peep. And I put a good Jamaican Beating to it too! Your wife couldn't drive you to and from Don's? I'm sure there was a way to get the car over Don's house, if you really tried. I mean Steph, lives in Conn. and she found a way to get her car worked on by Don.
I don't know too much about the LS7 clutch setup to recommend it. I've seen most of the guys drive and race with a Spec Stage 3 that made a lot more power than you, and have no issues.

Actually, I think it's because they have no interest in these cars.
Steph's situation & ride availability is different than mine.
Don will tell you at least 6 times we've been set up to get tit there only to end up getting cancellations so I had to cancel.
Very frustrating.
My last step is to have AAA tow it to Don's, but they usually like to have someone with them.

I used my stock clutch for dragracing, I make just a little more that you car has like 40 something thousand on the clock I raced it lots this summer and last summer also and it still dosn't slip, for the amout of times you race and HP you use I would say go with the GM clutch I am thinking about useing another with a bittet wheel. Why don't you try your bittet and just get the PP and disk.

that LS7 clutch sounds like a good idea... i'm no expert, but i'd think that you'd get the driveability and maybe life expectancy of the stock, but able to take more of a beating?? from what i've read/seen, the stock is no good for racing, and the racing clutches suck on the street, so maybe the LS7 will be a happy medium?
i'm still on my stock clutch (24k), so i'd love for someone to have tried this out by the time i need to replace mine

I thought you only worked 20 minutes from me but lived closer to Don.
The next time your heading down LMK, (still have my cell#?) & I'll call Don (found your cell#) & let him know the car will finally be on its way.
Thanks Chris!

Butch, I'll back Chris up. I know what it's like to beg for a ride with family and friends to Don's. It used to just cost me dinner , now my checkbooks open. It's worth it though no one touches my car except for Don. I'm in Lexington cell is 603 361 3764.

Honestly I dont think the LS2/C6 clutch will fit on an LS1. I would check it out first.
Either way between the two I would go with the Spec, it will definatly be better then the LS2 clutch. But if you want the best clutch of them all, I would go with a CARTEK clutch. The reliability and streetability is unmatched. I have driven over 30K and pulled countless 1.4 and 1.5 60's on it with out a single issue.
Good luck
