Pioneer or Panasonic...IMO they are top rated. Personally, I have a 42" Visio that I'm completely happy with. Great deal and great picture.

I prefer the Sony picture over any other, the WEGA engine they have is excellent. If you don't mind spending the extra coin I'd go for the sony.

Noyz - they are all very similar as the screens are made by several manufacturers. Of course, internally they use their proprietary electronics. As with other products, you pay for the big name. IMO, go for the unit that has the best picture, sizing and the price you are looking to pay. The QC seems to be better with plasma TV's versus LCD's.

Nowadays its not the brand that is important, it's the feed. Then tune the color up with a Avia disc or similiar. They all push red and are too bright. It's just like tuning a car.

Sony, makes the best quality. Is it going to be a flat face with a tube, or a plasma. Plasma is much thinner and lighter than a tubed flat face tv.

Pioneer revolutionized the plasma tv, however Sony makes a better quality unit.

My brother just baught one that's why I have reserched this.

Sony no longer makes plasma so if you find one its an old model. Do you need it to be HD or just a regular TV? Hopefully you just want a regular non HD since LCD and Plasmas cant display full HD quality. It might not be a huge problem now but when the Blurays and SDVD's come out and can go to 1080P your TV will be lacking.
If I were you I would just get a cheapo TV (plasma or LCD) to put up there now until the technology catches up ESPECIALLY if you are not feeding a HD signal.
