Classes were on a Thursday schedule due to the coming holiday, so I got out early enough to make it to the track. Threw the slicks in the back of the Trans Am and drove down to Atco.
The air was great, but the track came and went with the night.
My first pass caused me to nearly poop myself as the car was from the centerline to the wall and back again a few times down the track. I looked like I must have been drunk!
As cars began to go down, the groove warmed up and better times fallowed.
I clicked off 3 fast runs before cars began to break. Three cars in a row, oil, coolent, and so on spilled everywhere. Track was down for hours and at the end was too cold for even a stock powerd car to get traction.
As the title says the car ran a new best, slightly better on the ET and much better on the MPH, but still a new best.
I could not do my typical 6500+ RPM launch due to lack of traction so I had to slip it out of the hole at 6000 or so. Here's how it went;
60':.........1.437
330'.........4.330
1/8..........6.721
MPH.........102.17
1000'........8.779
1/4..........10.510
MPH.........130.78
My 2 other good passes included a 10.59 @ 130.52 and a 10.57 @ 130.54
I am sure that if the track would have stayed warm and dry I would have knocked out a 10.4x but it was not ment to be tonight. I still have 3 or 4 weekends, Saturday mornings perhaps, before the track closes for the winter so I hope to have a good outing one of those days.
I can't thank everyone at CARTEK enough. They have done an increadible job building this car. To be so tame and easy to drive on the street, and to bolt on a set of slicks, hang the front tires a foot in the air and shift it to a 10.5 at over 130mph on a set of LS6 heads and a cam, bolted to a stock GM short block is beyond my wildest dreams. And to think, the car has more in it.
Thank you to Dave for setting me up with this awesome setup!
Thank you to Julio for his tireless work on the dyno to tuning it so perfect that it drives on the street as well as it hauls *** down the track!
Thank you Mike for porting the most perfect set of LS6 heads I have ever seen!
Thank you Roy for installing it flawlessly and with every attention to detail that it can run fast and reliable.
Thank you Rich for all the little jobs on the suspension, gears, exhaust and more without which non of my power would ever see the track.
THANK YOU CARTEK!
Also thanks to QTP for making some freakin' sweet headers! Thanks Barry!
With the good air here, I hope I can thrown down a 10.4-something before the season's out!
