New DMV fees take effect Sep 1st!
Just a heads up to those of you who don't know already..
"Beginning September 1, 2009, certain fees for driver license and motor vehicle services will be changing. These new base fees were established by the Florida Legislature as part of the state’s budget development process."
Just to list a couple..
Class E License goes up from $27.00 to $48.00
Renew Class E License goes up from $20.00 to $48.00
Replacement license goes up from $10.00 to $25.00
Late fee for not renewing license on time, from $1.00 now up to $15.00
Automobiles (2,500-3,500 pounds) from $22.50 up to $30.50
Automobiles (3,500 or more pounds) from $32.50 up to $44.00
Original/Duplicate Title fee up from $24.00 to $70.00
A complete list can be found here:

You can however avoid these charges if you take care of your business before September 1st. If you're wanting to renew your registration, then you're only able to avoid these new costs if your plate expires this upcoming November. Anyone whose expires December and later are not eligible. This is because you're only allowed to renew your registration 3 months in advance. Also, don't forget you now have the option to register your car for 2-years, so you can avoid these new fees for next year as well.
If you need to renew your license because it expires soon, now is the time to get on that. I don't believe there are any time restrictions on how soon is too soon to renew that, so if someone knows something I don't, let us know.

I just found this out yesterday when I registered the car I just bought. Another thing is that new vehicle tag/registration is going up from $100 to $200. I understand prices will be going up, but it's OVER 100% markup on most caese. Also I was told that just getting a replacement license will require something along the lines of requiring two proofs of residency and your social security card. Welcome to the new America!

You guys got to keep in mind that these fees have not been increased for 15+ years IIRC, but don't get me wrong, IT SUCKS!!! However I try to look at the big picture so as to not freak out so much.
At least we don't have to pay tax on our car and major appliances EACH YEAR like some states do but I am sure it's coming
