soon to be florida resident. have some questions
whats up floridians and snow birds (soon to be one). i am going to be medically disharged in a few months an will be moving to boca raton. i am not a wounded warrior (health issues that are non life threatening) words cannot describe my anticipation of warm weather an hunnies all year around
1. i have headers with ORY (catless) that i have not installed yet but am thinking of doing so before i make the move. is there any smog restrictions or anything i should be aware of when getting my plates down there?
2. ive never had to get my license in another state (though i should have) should i just go to the community hall and present my new address? (problem is i have no bills or mail going to the address that i will be moving to) any recommendations?
3. va members collecting dissability in florida, is there any perks under florida or will be in the near future? dare i say health care treatment decent?lol
4. i am thinking about selling my beater to get another one down there because cars are much cheaper due to no inspection sticker is this correct? anything in the works of making florida a tree hugger state anytime soon?
that's all i can think of for now. i would appreciate any info you guys can give me because some of these questions are very important (especially financially) i have a lot going on but sunny days, beer, and some babes are good motivation right now.

We have zero smog. I can't remember the last time I registered a car and anyone from the office even looked at it. Maybe it varies area to area, but where I am at I just walk in and walk out, they might go out to check the odometer.

Plates n D L
I'm an Immigrant from Kansas who's been here about 7 months. So far life is good here, but no matter where ya go there's always good n bad parts a town.
No tax on income or food but they'll get ya elsewhere. Typical gov. stuff....
As for Tags, I'd get your D L changed first as they may want that for ID.
I changed mine in August and it cost me $75, but I have CDL and Heavy Truck. A reg D L will cost less.
As for Tags, what I've read is that an out of state car or truck is considered "New Wheels" to Florida. So they have this tax of $100, which used to be $400 that we'll have to pay.
Only thing you'll need is current title, reg and insurance info. No inspections from what I hear. I'm heading to tag my rides the first week of Feb. as they use your B day for a renewal date. My KS. truck tag expires then so good timing.

They might come out and look at your ride. I remember when I moved down here back in 08 the cop came out just to check the vin and the odometer in my SS. He was a cool guy. And yeah no emissions down here bud. Enjoy it. I know it was the best move for me coming from Mass.

Unfortunately for you a few laws changed after the first of the year. One of the changes is the documentation you have to bring to get a drivers license. Here is a link to show you the new changes and it has a questionnaire you can do so you can find out exactly what you need to bring. I would have to look it up but I’m pretty sure you have 30 days to get a Florida DL after you move or it’s a misdemeanor if you get pulled over and tell them how long you have been living here.
There is no emission testing but due to it being an out of state car the charge an impact fee and if I recall correctly they do check the VIN. Also our tags just went up like 80% after the first of the year.

I will admit, I turn into a little Bitch when it gets cold, cannot stand it. I can deal with 95 degrees better than this. Then again, I'm a true Native.

thanks for the links ill check them out. im a happy man finding out how much i will be paying for tricare as a private health inurance. we will see in a few months about them damn co pays.
i didn't think it would get below 30 down there wtf? it been in the singles and teens here with the wind chill factored in (maryland). i can't believe i lived in RI for as long as i did as it's a helluva a lot colder up there. i worked at ups and fedex combined for 4yrs and got below zero in the damn trailers when loading. i love the heat compared to cold but i hate sweating all the time especially when you want to G' up for the hunnies and go out to the bar/club and your all sweaty an that nasty muggy feeling in nice clothes. the northern saying i disagree with is " you can dress for the cold but not the heat" f*** that ill take the sunshine state anyday.

I just moved down from PA in October. No emisissions came out to verify my vin thats all. You will need you license first. I believe I saw a link to paperwork you need for that but in short DL or passport original or certified copy of birth certificate and proof of fl address. For car reg you need your fl dl and proof of fl insurance and residence and about $400 for the fees.
