Default Opinions on this car...(make me not want it ha)

Found a car a very small used lot. Its a Sport Gold Mettalic 1998 Z28 Vert. Tan Leather and black top. Its an auto with 111k on it. Clean CarFax that I ran myself. Only mod is a SLP lid and bellows. The asking price is $2500. Here is why:

It needs:
Exhaust (car lot mechanic cut it off thinking it sounded good)
4 tires
A new Top and a pot-metal brace that is broken
Taillights
Both window motors are slow but work
Rear bumpers as small scuff
Trans mount (you can here it thumping the trans tunnel)
Dash cover (its there but cracked)
TPS sensor
Low collant sensor
Vert switch housing
Its setting 4 codes currently...A.I.R. code, TPS code, EVAP code and a shift solinoid code.

The good is that the paint overall is in VERY good shape. Seems to run strong! Good oil pressure!

Also.....yes there is more...the top is cut and broken from someone braking into the car on the lot and cut the leather seats and broke the bolster on one part.

OBVIOUSLY the reason I want the car is because it is VERY RARE. There were only 958 SGM cars made and this one is 1 of 57 Auto Z Verts (there were 80 total SGM verts made) Its also a one year only color. It is also the third rarest color of 4th gens made.

so....$2500 seems like a lot to me...however as we all know..do some searching and hunting, not be in a hurry and a lot of these parts could be bought used and for cheap. Would you run away from this car fast? I love rare cars and want this badly but dont want a nightmare.

After speaking with the owner..id think i can get the car around $2150

That shift solenoid light could be a simple shift solenoid gone bad or the trans is on its way out.

it was kind of weird...one the first drive it felt like it had no first gear or that it was starting off in second. As the car warmed up it started shifting perfectly and ran very well..if i recall is was the 3-2 shift solenoid

truth is i want the car, like i said, cause i will prob never run into another one at a car show or something. And its hard to buy a LT1 car with high mileage for 2k these days. My 94 1LE with 79k miles only got $3700

Unfortunately rare does not always mean valuable, especially in this case. but for that price, go for it. It has the engine that was touched by the hand of God. Seems like a good buy to me. Needs a few things (but most used cars do). Let us know how it goes!

yeah true..i know it isnt a "rare" like the 1LE, Firehawk, Etc is but i like the non-norm cars.. i can just see it blacked out and lowered on some black powdercoated 10 spokes.

Sounds like you have made up your mind already. Gonna be hard pressed to find someone here to tell you to pass that one up. If you have the time, funds and patience... Go for it!!!

Exhaust (car lot mechanic cut it off thinking it sounded good)----~$400
4 tires------------------------------------------------------~$400
A new Top and a pot-metal brace that is broken----------~$300?
Taillights------------------------------------------------$100
Both window motors are slow but work------------------ dont need yet
Rear bumpers as small scuff--------------------------------no problem
Trans mount (you can here it thumping the trans tunnel)---------$200 with dealer part
Dash cover (its there but cracked)-------------------------whos isnt?
TPS sensor------------------------------------------------no idea on price maybe 60?
Low collant sensor--------------------------mines been bad for about 2 years
Vert switch housing-------------------------------------$10
Its setting 4 codes currently...A.I.R. code, is the air system on it still?
TPS code,-------------------------------will go away when you fix the tps sensor
EVAP code-------------------------------could be tricky
a shift solinoid code.-----------like stated above, could be expensive or cheap

total cost... around 2000 at most

i would say get it and fix it yourself

My trans was setting P0755 shift solinoid B. No first and no lock up when it acted up. It did this after a bigger stall and rebuild. I had the tranny retuned and it has not came back on.

There was a difference in opinion between the builder and tuner on it. So far tuner was right.

I say buy it if you have the funds. It's not like this would be your DD and you would have to depend on it right away. If you want it go for it.

Dude JUMP ON IT!!!11!!111!!

Buy the time you rack up a bill that would equate to a cherry Camaro vert, you will have superseded it in performance with this build and have exactly what YOU WANT!!!

I did the same with my Trans Am; I got it for $2K and it needed mostly cosmetic work, also the A4 only had 2 gears, and really that's was about it. Since I bought it, I spun a bearing, but driving around with only 1st and 2nd, I guess it was inevitable, lol...

So far I spent about $7K on goodies and am still in the Black in comparison on if I bought a cherry or modded T/A vert. To me $10K+ is a good price for a cherry or modded T/A Vert.

In the end, I will have a 415 w/ L92 Stg3 head, M6 swap, MWC Fab 9 4.11 rear, custom front bumper and VFN 5" Ram Air cowl hood.

I would, a vert for $2500 that has a running LS1 is a SWEET starting platform!

Depending on what kind of performance you want out of it, you should easily be in the BLACK ($10K -/+) by the time your done.

Buy it. Even if the trans is going it's a good excuse for a T56 swap. Can't beat it for $2500.

It's hard to beat a $2500 LS1 car.

I say buy it, clean it up, and go from there.

Some of the things I would do to it would be black 18 DD Wheels with chrome lip, SS hood with a black manta outline stripe, SS spoiler, black billet grill with a gold Chevy emblem, SixSpeed swap.

Hell where is this car at? I will go get it for myself jk LOL.
