Default Transmission Decision?

Ok, so my stock 4L60E is going bad, slipping jerking and just doing the normal things it should do for a car that just hit 101,000 miles and was driven hard. You can see my mods in sig. Well, I took my car to Pontiac and did a Diagnostic test to see if any other problems are going on with the car besides Transmission and it came back great with nothing wrong just my Transmission is bad like I thought.( SES light is always on because of EGR delete but thats all) Sooooo should I go with a Turbo 400 or rebuilt 4L60E? I can say that I talked to Ken Wells and he suggested staying with the 4L60E if I am going to stay in the 12's, anything lower then 12's usually gets a little iffy with the 4L60E from what he says. Of course I would like to go faster but this is my daily driver untill the middle of next year. So should I just go around with bad gas mileage for half a year and be a little faster and able to mod more in the future and not have to worry about my Transmission or should I go rebuilt but stronger then stock with a little bigger torque converter?

For a properly built 4L60E... 12's is a joke. 11's is a joke as well. Mid 10's is still not a problem.

I am constantly amazed at the people with 400hp's that think they need a Turbo 400. No doubt, the 400 is an awesome transmission that can take much abuse. I just don't like driving around my STREET car at 45 mph and 3000 rpm.

I can't believe someone told you that the 4L60E is "iffy" in the 12's. Wow... I'm amazed! I really am.

Transman built my trans, see sig for times! **** I must have 30-40 11 second passes and 8 10's! Not one bitty issue!

No no,^ If I am going to be going for 11's or lower he is saying that a 4L60E is going to be a little iffy, and he didn't say that it's not going to hold up or do poorly, but I think he is telling me what would be less headache for 1/4 runs if I am wanting to go a lot faster in the future. I have half a year before the car is no longer a daily driver. If the car was not my daily driver , I wouldn't care about gas and highway speed, heck I would put 4.11 gears in the beast and do whatever. I just need some advice so I don't make a poor decision. I will say this, I am leaning towards the 4L60E right now.

Are your cars your daily drivers? And if they are, if you had a choice and didn't drive them all the time except for around town or to a track or show would you still want the 4L60E or Turbo? I am not saying you guys are wrong I just want a lot of info and advice from the members before I make a final decision. Thanks for the replies.

another 10 second 4L60e here (or was). no DOUBT a PROPERLY built 4L60e can handle 10 second passes. note i said properly built. it isnt cheap, but neither is th ecost of rebuilds by jackass tranny builders. only one i recomend and its Transman!

btw th400 and 400 hp engines are gay!

also, in making your decision, talk to people that have actually run 10 second passes in a 4L60e. i wouldnt consider a th400 untill you want 9s

Thanks for the info. Decision made. 4L60E it is. I guess everybody is running it fast so why not. I would really like to go to Tampa for the Transmission , I shall see if selling my motor will give me enough money to do it. I always wanted them to do it but just couldn't afford it, If I can get rid of the engine then it should be no problem. Need a Sportsman Series 383 complete short block for $3,000 LOL. Still on the stand with clear plastic around it.Wheeler Power Products Built it. Thanks Guys.

a 4L60e tht will take 10 second passes all day is not cheap. but its worth it as you can have a DD running 10s gettin great fuel milage (if setup that way). TP has proven themselves as the only shop other than rossler (in ohio) in our experience. probably looking at around 2400 installed.

Yep I agree with you 100% Gator that it can be done.

If you just want a cheap fix, I have a 31K mile 4L60E you can have for $400 with converter.

You might want to do a little maintenance, like
filter & fluid, just to see what that gets you.
Very touchy about fluid level, the 4L60E. Might
clean the MAF too, just for luck, since sensed
airflow goes right to line pressure.

Hey thanks Whistler but I am going to hold off on that offer for now, but if it gets too bad I shall take you up on it if you still have it. As far as the Fluid and Filter maintnance, I have done every fluid change and flush that i could do except for the rear end and I have had a Diagnostic test done twice by two different places. Sensors are all good, plugs wires and injectors are all fine. I have basically made an effort to find things wrong with the car and everything is peachy except the Transmission. Thank you for the idea JimmyBlue but I tried those things,, hey at least it's just the Transmission.
